Did the change of transmission from normal to tiptronic in 99-00 help or hurt performance 0-60 1/4mile?or is it the same?do the 00-02 weigh more than the 99's??

The 2000 transmission is better than the 99. The 2001 transmission is better than the 2000. The 2002 transmission is the same as a 2001.
As for speed, the 1999-2002 heads, cranks, rods, pistons, valves, exhaust manifolds, and intake manifolds are all the same. The ME 2.8 engines have upgraded intakes, but not the manifold. For example, the 2001/2002 throttle body is a 74mm unit. The earlier models have a 69 mm unit. The injectors are also different on the 2001/2002 engines. There's a long list of changes that came with ME 2.8. The 2001/2002 CLK430's have ME 2.8. Prior years have ME 2.0.
C43 heads (different cams and ported exhaust manifolds) on a ME 2.8 car are rumored to be a good combination. A bad port job will result in a slower car - I know this for a fact. A good machine shop with a flow bench and experience is highly recommended.
I forgot to mention, there is an early and late block. I'm speaking of the bare block. Is there a difference between the old and new? There must be. The newer casting cost $2K MORE than the old casting.
