If you are wondering if you ALREADY HAVE it, you can either look at your past service record, and there should be a date for the expiration of your warranty. Or you can call the dealership and provide your VIN and they will check for you.

If you are wondering if you should or can still buy the extended factory warranty, it depends on your intentions of keeping the car. If you drive a lot and intend to keep it around for about 5+yrs, i highly recommend it.

However, if you want to sign up for the warranty, you must do so within 1 year of when the car was put in service/sold.

I just checked with Mercedes Benz and they said that my factory warranty is not extended. Why is this so? My car is 2001 and I thought it is supposed to be extended to 7 years or 100k miles? Can anyone please comment on this? Anyway, thanks for the information mmgrad.

New cars have a 4 year 50,000 mile warranty I believe.

For a used car, I think they just offer the remainder of that original warranty. For them to offer you 7 years 100,000 miles, you'd have to pay roughly $2000 more unless you worked out a deal at time of purchase, in that case you would know for sure if they gave you the extended warranty.

I believe the StarMark cars have the coverage period extended to 100,000 miles.

I purchased extended warranty (8 years, 100,000 miles) at the time of purchase from MB Dealer.

The other day when the check engine light came on, I took the car to an different MB Dealer. The service rep did not have any information on whether I have extended warranty and was telling me that even if I have extended warranty, the diagnosis of what caused the check engine light to come on and some of the repair may not be covered by the extended warranty!

It sounded wrong to me. When we bought the extended warranty, we were told that we can take the car to any MB dealer and that engine problems will be covered. There was no disclaimer that we would have to pay for the diagnosis of the problem.

Was that an unscrupulous service rep? Has anyone encounter problems like this?

I've done a lot of homework for the warranties stuff, so hopefully i can offer you some help.... maybe.

8yr/100,000 miles??? I think mercedes only offers at MAX 7yr/100,000 miles (4yr/50,000 original factory warranty + 3yr extension and/or up to 100,000 miles).

If your warranty really is 8yr/100,000 miles, it may not be a mb extended warranty. In which case, you may or may not be able to take it to all dealers for service.

engine problems are covered, but the extended warranty is a limited warranty. it doesn't cover everything the original factory warranty covers. Things like your stereo, and some electronics, etc... are not covered.

If anyone is interested, I can scan a copy of the Mercedes-Benz Extended Warranty specification and coverages.

I also purchased a 8yr/100,000 miles extended warranty when I picked up the car from House of Imports....I was told that I can go to any dealer for repair and it is 100% refundable if I don't ever use it or if I sell my car in the near future.....I'll go dig up the old paper work and double check if the 8th year is in fact a non-MBUSA warranty

EDIT: there are "basic" and "premium" extended warranty offered by MBUSA up to 8 years...so i am pretty sure the 8th year is covered by MBUSA rather than other private parties.

The diagnostic check (70.00 or so) is not covered by most warranties, including MB's own.

That's money goes directly to the dealer, unlike warranty service, which they have to get from the warranty company or MB.

Also, be sure the warranty you get is a "real" MB warranty. I went to Penske to get extended warranty for my SLk and i was about to sign the papers then i realize the warranty paper was from a 3rd company.

I mean i was about to pay $2500 for a warranty that was not from MBUSA but from a third party company with, later I found out, many ristrictions.... And all this time i thought i was buying a MBUSA extended warranty!!!!

So be sure to ASK for a MBUSA extended warranty!!!

If you did not extend your new car warranty within a year of buying your car, you can still get a Daimler-Chrysler extended warranty that allows/requires you to go to a Mercedes dealer (per Daimler-Chrysler rep.)
