Thanks

It varies from car to car you will have to count the little nubs on the pad to tell what you have

bigwill, did you count the bumps? I have a cab too and want to know if it's worth going to #1 pads.

sorry havent gotten around to it, but will attempt it soon. i've ordered the 5mm pads anyway since it's only 40 bucks, plan to shave it down a few more mm when i get it, i read someone on this forum did just that. wonder how many mm more i can get by shaving down the pads?

I attempted to swap out pads last night and failed. The spring compressors I got did not fit very well, I could only grip about 3 rings and didn't compress enough. Let me know what you use when you do yours.

gn3: I used a small version of the spring compressors, and doing it on a lift is 1000xs easier than doing it on the garage floor!

This is my result when
I went with #1 eclass pads front, and #2 rears, on stock 17s

it was lower, but I wanted more drop, so I had to dig in again, and this time around I installed Eibach coils.

If you need more drop that whats pictured, i highly recommend you do the coils at the same time and save yourself the headache of redoing it a 2nd time (<--Guilty!)

After my adventures with pads and coils, i really wish i had gone ZERO pad, or PAD Delete for an ULTIMATE drop.
I do not plan on diggin in a 3rd time into my suspension, anytime soon....but when the bilsteins sport are shot, im going Coilovers

What settings do you have your konis? ^ do you have the external adjustables or do you have to dismount the shocks?

I want a softer front compression shock. I'm thinking konis at setting 2 would work out for me.

i was thinking of saving 40 bucks and take out the pads out right, but some say that they get a weird noise from the springs rubbing against where the pad would normally sit. is't also unsafe to have zero pad?

How much do spring pads cost? Does anyone have part numbers? Also why use a E-Class pad instead of CLK? I called a local deal and they had no idea what I was talking about when I said I wanted spring pads.

The parts guy didn't know what you're talking about because the EPC has the part listed as a "spring insulator", a "spring seat", a "spring cup", and/or a "rubber ring", depending on the model car that's being looked up. The pads cost between $4.90 and $3.50 each, depending on the discount you're given. It's an E part, rather than a CLK, because it was designed for the E, and then used on the CLK. The same as the HVAC controller is a 140 part. The pad part numbers and thicknesses are

Front:
210-321-01-84 5mm
210-321-02-84 9mm
210-321-03-84 13mm
210-321-04-84 17mm
210-321-05-84 21mm
Rear:
210-325-01-84 5mm
210-325-02-84 9mm
210-325-03-84 13mm
210-325-04-84 17mm
210-325-05-84 21mm

SoCalw11w123, do you have any problems clearing big speed bumps with your pad drop. I'm looking to do the same. What did you use to compress your springs?

GN3,

Sorry for highjacking SoCalw11w123 spot but, I just lowered my 99 320 and used a spring compressor kit I bought from ebay (I paid less than $200 with shipping) and it worked great. I know my setup is a little different from yours because you have struts in the front, but I'm pretty sure these should work and it was a hell of alot easier and safer to use than the fork type you get from autozone. I was able to do the fronts in a hour. I didn't need to use the compressor on the rears, I just drop the rear control arm with a small jack and the rears just pop out.(there's a DIY thread on how to do the rears). Total job <2 hrs (no power tools). I installed Eibachs with #1 all around. I'll post pics after I get a chance to wash the car. I live in AZ and its been Daaamn HOT! (108+)

gn3,

just came back after i had all pads removed, #2 front, #3 back.
front dropped 10mm back dropped 15mm. but the headlights now have to be adjusted, its pointing a bit high. so if you were wondering what pads youhave on now.
clk430 cab advang. leather seats, bose sysytem, phone, A/C, etc.
someone here said it depends on what options are on the car, that how they decide on the pad to use. hope that helps.

big mike1979,

how much you weight dude? you said you had to remove your passgr side pad to level it out. i noticed my passgr side is also 5mm higher but since there is no pad i cant make it lower. unless i put in a 5mm pad on the driver side or cut off 1/5 of a coil from the spring. back is dead even left/right. i'm not that heavy really (225lbs) is that what has caused the driver side to sit lower?

Cool. I have the same setup. You'll like the ride and hopefully it will be low enough for you. Can wait to see pics.
