Which are better 18" or 19" rims?

I just bought a 2002 mercedes clk 320 I wanted to know which rim size will be a smoother? Would I be able to just put them on or what exactly do I need to do to be able to put a rim size like that on? Do I need spacers or different shocks?
Thanks

1st car/not exactly a mechanic

Your car can accept all the way up to a 20in rim with the proper offset BUT...the bigger you go the more your ride quality will suffer. This is because the bigger rim you get the smaller (Low-profile) tire you will have to get in order to make it fir properly without any rubbing.

If you look do a search on this W208 section you will find the info you need:

Proper Offset for each rim 18" or 19"
Proper size tire for 18" or 19"

I think you would be happier with an 18in since you are worried about ride smoothness. I on the other hand like the look of the 19" rim and the filling out of the wheel area and an aggressive offset with a huge lip on the rear tire!!

You can still get the agressive offset on the 18" but just get a taller tire to fill the wheel well a little better and you should have the best of both worlds...nice rims and nice ride quality.

Do i need to do any adjust ments after getting rims?

I am almost going to buy these rims off someone, they are 19 inch back rims and 18 inch rims for front. Could I just put the rims on and drive? Or do I have to do anything to make the rims fit and ride soothly? The rims are 8 lug universal rims, theyll fit w/no problem right?

Thanks

you got a bad ride, I want to make mine look similar 1 day. Too much for me $ wise right now.

I didn't even consider 19s because of the terrible streets out here in the bay area.

the 18's give me a little smoother ride and I have much fewer flats-blow outs because of bumps and potholes. 19"s look better but 18's have more sidewall. I breaks down to high maintenance and careful driving

This is a floating topic I see.

Now on the 18, 19 and 20's debate:

18's which I do have are rather small and leave lots of area to fill.
19's I hear are best "overall fit"
20's- I am on the fence about this due to the argument of hitting pot holes, blowouts, etc. but if are you running 30 series aspect tires on the rear wouldn't that be a better ride than 25's?
