Sick and Tired!!
of two things....the stupid pixel outage and the steering wheel buttons.
The Pixel outage I can sorta live with and maybe one day I'll have the ***** to pull out the cluster and try one of the DIY methods but the steering wheel buttons are freaking killing me!
Can we not order them by part # w/o replacing the whole damn airbag assembly? First mine started to peel then due to some detail shops efforts to clean em up they became super sicky! To the point they felt like fly paper. My skin would actually stck to the buttons. I tried Goof Off and it did nothing. Could have even made them stickier! Then I went with a dab of white vinegar on a rag and the peeling layer started comin off in sheets but unfortunately it included some of the actual color to where one of the little down arrows is gone and the white plastic base is showing through! So in a gentle effort to de-peel and de-stickyfy my buttons they are almost worse!
What the hell?! Has anyone found the buttons alone or are we doomed to either have nasty, peeling, crappy looking, sticky buttons or replace a $1000 airbag that probably works just fine! God knows I'm not interested in ever finding out if it works....just gald its there!
Holding my breath for a good answer from all you gurus out there!
Cheers,

The buttons can in fact be replaced seperately at a cost of 90 bucks each?? I checked on these while I lived in Germany so they might have been cheaper to get there. BUT..the overall good news is YES they can be ordered alone without the airbag!

$90 per button? So that would be X4 to replace all the buttons on the steering wheel? (2 on the left, 2 on the right).
Do you have a part number for those buttons?

First I tried alcohol to remove this sticky coating on the buttons. But it was too much work. Then I just used plastic knife. It was easy and most important very convenient. Here in Atlanta the lights are so long that you can grow beard while waiting for green. So, every time I would wait for green light I used that time to scratch off the sticky coating. Did not have to sacrifice my quality time with the family when at home, on that stupid task.

Here's my .02 & the part # for the buttons
So its my theory that with time, wear and tear, various cleaners etc, that the rubberized material begins to thin and eventually you are down to the adhesive! Viola! Sticky buttons!
Hows that for deductive reasoning? Well its my best guess anyway.
Cheers and thx Greg for the heads up!
I stopped by my stealership yesterday and after jumping into a SLR and the new E Coupe I found the buttons part #. 210-821-25-51-7D53
This Part # however includes my color key for Ash Interior. I believe it is the last 4 digits (7D53)
The L & R buttons come as one, so the 4 buttons are together for a little over $300 bucks.
Thanks as always for the info guys!
