Installed Denso's Irridium plugs and found cheap place for Mobil 1 oil !
Ok so I have just done a little service to my car this evening changing the plugs, oil and oil-filter.
From reading your sugestions I got myself some Denso irridium spark plugs. I then was sourcing the oil I needed which was 5litres of fully synthetic 0W 40 Mobil 1 and the prices were around the 35 - 40GBP mark. I then found out that Kwik-Fit garges are supplied by Mobil and have the fully synthetic 0W 40 in huge drums which they obviously get for a cheaper price. If you bring an empty container they will fill it up for you for 30GBP ! The guy even showed my the drum with Mobil 1 on the side to ensure it was genuine ! (sorry if this is old news and has been discussed before)
Any the results are a silky smooth drive now. ! The gear change is smoother and the throttle response seems better. Time will tell if the plugs will give the advertised better MPG, but I am positive they will

At today’s exchange rate, the GBP is $1.67 US. Five quarts at 30 GBP = $50.10 US. Mobil1 goes for $10 per quart in the UK?!?!?! OK, 5 liters is really about 5.25 quarts, but still, $10 per AND you have to bring your own container? Otherwise it’s $12 to $13 per quart? 
I live in Southern California. Yesterday I went to a US auto parts chain store called Kragen/O’Reilly and took home 10 quarts of 0W40 Mobil1. Four quarts at the regular price ($7 USD/ 5.5 GBP per quart), and the fifth is free. Basically, 34 GBP for 9.6 liters. How much of your oil price is TAX/VAT?

Don't know how much is Tax/Vat but it's ALOT!!
The usual price is between £40-45 for Four liters!
I change my oil when I remember every 6-7000 miles at a side garage. I usually get charged £80 for an oil change.

I like to change my oil every 6 months but it gets expensive at this price however it is a small price to pay for piece of mind on your beloved Merc.!
It is the cost of fuel in the UK and the TAX the gov has on it, which is probably the main reason there are not so many larger engines and more diesels on the road.
Fuel (Gas) is £1 / litre (which is £4.54 / imp gal = $7.58 a US Gallon !)
So Guys if your wanting the best oil at the best price then give Kwik Fit ago. The manager in my local branch was more then happy to help, and if the guy behind the counter dose not know about the deal of bringing you own container then ask him to ask his manager thats what I had to do.
I'll be changing my oil maybe three times a year now !
