first...i love my wife...
we were on a trip and she put a cooler in the trunk, and of course it wasnt secure so it leaked water in the trunk.
I was not using the cd at the time..but when we got home..i found out the the cd changer was not working any longer.
I checked the power to the changer, and i got voltage on the red wire.
i removed it..and took the small enclusre off the back and noticed that the ribbon cable was all corroded. i cleaned it to the best that i could...but still can not power up the changer ...is there a simple fix or should i just go get another one.

Another option would be to scrap the cd changer and modify the connections to attach to an iPod. There are plenty of threads on here about converting the various pre-iPod models, and I converted my ML320 for $20 in 15 minutes and my wife LOVES it.

Some of us have replaced the OEM head unit and the CD changer. Aftermarket head units that can read USB drives make a good alternative.
Take a look at the Alpine iDA-X305. It’ll read digital files directly from an iPod or iPhone through a USB cable. In addition to reading an iPod or iPhone, this head unit will charge them, control them, and make calls through the iPhone (or any Bluetooth phone). If you don’t have an iPod or iPhone, the Alpine can read MP3, WMA, or AAC files from a USB powered drive. A 16GB flash drive will hold over 150 hours worth of MP3 music. PAC boxes will let you to retain the BOSE system and the steering wheel controls.

Thats one opinion. I find it better than the cd changer and I don't leave the ipod in the car so charging is not an issue. Of course a USB connection is superior but you wont be getting that for free. For the couple of bucks spent on the connection.... I'd call it a deal.

HI All:
I removed the connection for the 6 disc changer and hooked up a new cable that goes to the iPod. I ran the cable into the glove box, but I may run it underneath at some point if my wife finds the glove box to be a pain. There are threads on here about how to do this with other models, but here's what I culled together for my wife's ML (see attached PDF).
Worked like a charm, cost me about $20. It's not fancy--I don't get the names of the tunes on the screen or anything, but I wasn't about to spend $600 for that (I found a british company that makes a unit that allows you to see the tune names on the screen). Yea, I lost the disc changer too, but it wasn't MP3, so it was getting annoying anyway (not enough tunes).
Good luck!
