I thought i was leaking motor oil but it turned out to be transmission fluid. Mostly it is coming from the black plastic cap that that allows access to the flywheel. Anyone had this problem? What can it be? Its very slight leak. Looks like i need to drop the tranny down to see

It can be leakage from the cap itself. Check if the cap is broken from any point.

The cap itself holds and retains oil?? noway! Its just an access cap for your flywheel and nothing more. Ill check it out again. Maybe were talking about 2 different caps.

Ck to see if you have a plug to drain the torque converter. Remove the inspection cover and rotate the motor. Your right that the plastic cap is for debis purpose only and does not hold pressure.

I did that and did not see any drain plug. Do all CLK's have that feature?

We (W208's) actually do have a drain plug to drain the rest of the trans fluid from our cars but I thought that ended with the 2000 models???

Anyone else know when year that plug was removed?

Greg

Yeah.. with being on the edge of the change I thought it worth a try. Sounds like you will need to drop the trans and replace the front pump seal

Makes perfect sense. I have a 2001 and didnt see a drain plug.
Looks like i will need to drop the trans. Its not a bad leak at all. Its just that the fluid hits the exhaust pipes which makes smell. Otherwise i would leave it as is.
