Konis or Bilsteins Price

Ok, had my car lowered with the Brabus springs last week and I have been smiling ever since (01 CLK430A).

The ride is perfect for my taste since I drive the car for work and do a ton of fast freeway driving. The only thing I've noticed is that the car has a tendancy to porpoise (bounce up and down and carry on well after the dip in the road) when I'm doing 80-90 or slower if the roads are crappy. Weird, I figured my car would be ok since the shocks only have 12K miles on them...

I priced the Bilsteins and the Konis:

Koni Adjustable yellows: $397.00 set of 4
Bilstein Sport: $338.00 set of 4
Any opinions on whether $338 is a good or bad price.....Any ideas where I can save some money?

I figure I'll be buying the Bilsteins since it sounds like they are the less 'harsh' of the two.

Thanks for the help, plan on posting some pics once it stops raining here for a day and get her debadged for the photo shoot.

I would say get the Koni's. For just a few $$ more you get adjustables and you can put them at full soft to start with.

The Bilsteins will be stiffer than the Koni's. Get the latter which are also adjustable.

Thumbs up OK

Cool. I stand corrected and will be going with the Konis.

Where can you get Konis on the cheap...I plan on doing the install myself.

Thanks for the help.

$397 for the Koni's is cheaper, than $100 each which is what I paid at www.tirerack.com

Billsteins hardly leak; they last...Koni's seem to leak quiet a lot (second leaking Koni adjusteable shock on my C250D)...

Hi guys, I was just wondering whether I need to change my shocks if I lower my car. (around 1.5").
Does it affect the ride at all? Performance?

Thanks

It seems to be more car and mileage specific. I drive a CLK430A with 12kmiles and I figured the stock shocks couls handle it. I was wrong, and have concluded that with my Brabus springs (1.4 drop) it puts my normally good shocks in a 'less damped' position leaeding to my rebound being less controlled and more bouncy.

I wanted to take baby steps to this mod to see if I could avoid tossing out 12k mile old shocks. Next baby steps looks like it will be a set of Konis.

It your not a strut type set-up you can take these baby steps, if not you may just want to do the strut and spring at the same time to avoid a larger hassle... your call.

Hope my rambling helps:p

Angry

why is the w203 koni so much more expensive??? I wanted to put on my 2003 clk. But it is almost 50% more in cost . Hmm, anyways, brabus springs and koni's good idea or go with all brabus or replace with kleeman, although brabus shocks would be even more expensive

Which one do you guys thinks is better,
1. H&R cup kit,
2. eibach or H&R spring with KONI or bilstein shock,
3. coil over with adjustable shock. or
4. something like Kleemann suspension system.

I am tight with budget. So, any recommendation?

Thanks

H&R Cup kit will give you the best combination for the money.

something like the H&R cup kit is a reasonably priced no hassle kit. BUT you either like the ride or you don't. With koni shocks if the ride is too firm/soft you can adjust it to your liking.

go with Koni
