Gear Selector Clothe Cover
How do I fix this paper or cloth cover for the gear selector?
I don't know how to open it up to get to it.
Please help
I spent over $600 in repairing the interior of my car.

Not sure. But my guess would be that there are a series of tabs around it. You could try to move it with your fingers towards the gearshift and then see if you can pop it up?

Caveat – I’ve never done this. I’m just a forum lurker who passes along information that occasionally turns out to be bad:
First remove the shift knob by twisting the plastic bottom part of the shift knob counter-clockwise half a turn and it will move down, then you pull the gear shift up and off the shaft. The center trim should just pull up – it’s held in by clips. Unplug the electrical connections for the windows, airbag light, etc. With the entire wood centerpiece in your hand, you may be able to figure it out.

Speaking of OP, 1998CLK320,
By 'center trim' I meant the wood center section (the part that holds the window switches, etc.). Once you have that in your hand, you may see how to remove the black shift cover (possibly held by screws underneath). To remove the center trim, you have to remove the shift knob, which appears to be still attached.

I keep turning the plastic part on the gear knob and nothing happens
The black piece doesnt come off, now my gear knob is loose
One time the guy from Mercedes came out and took it out when my starter went.
