Has anyone else had problems with the AMG wheels? I have a 2005 CLK320 and have had to get air in my tires just about every 3 weeks or so. The tire store said that my AMG wheels are showing corosion and this is why air leaks out. My car is garage kept and I only have 38,000 miles on it. Should I purchase new wheels and if so, what kind? Thanks.

Just so that I fully understand what you’re saying - The tire store, presumably the place that sold you the tires that keep losing air, told you that all four of your wheels are corroded and that’s why you’re constantly having to add air. They didn’t say the wheels are dented, or have curb rash, or are damaged in any other way. They specifically said your five-year old aluminum wheels are “corroded”. Did they submerge each of the tire and wheel assemblies in water, notice the bubbles, and come to that conclusion?

Also, did all four wheels leak air before the new tires were installed, or did the alleged corrosion manifest itself right after the tires were installed?

My tires were leaking air prior to the replacement tires I bought...very weird that they leak air also. The tire store actually showed me the corosion on the wheels... The valves are in good shape.

my AMG wheels never leak

Just a point of reference, my AMG wheels never leak. I check them every couple of weeks (while I'm checking my wife's non-MB car that leaks constantly), and I haven't noticed a drop 'ever'.

If your rims are the problem, maybe they can paint the inside with an rubbery paint and fix the leak? Another option is to have the wheel redone, one of mine was bent, and they restored the wheel for $150 at a wheel place here in Dallas. Looks like new Good luck!

Not sure if you mentioned previously or not....are the leaking wheels chromed?

The tire place resealed my AMG wheels by cleaning and then sealing them twice now. Something about the bead seal is not holding due to the corosion on the chrome wheels. I am so frustrated and very apprehensive about driving my car now so I guess I have to buy some new wheels When you had your wheels restored, did they rechrome them? Does this work? Thanks for any help.

Most chrome wheels will eventually leak. Using nitrogen helps a little.

I even called the MB customer care. They said that even though they own AMG they do not warrant wheels or tires. I told him that since this is their policy and I understand where he is coming from, I will just have to get a Lexus or BMW next time...not a big deal. My 2005 CLK convertible has only 38,000 miles and has been garage kept. I would have though MB would back up their AMG line of wheels...go figure?!?

Chrome wheels were not a factory option on a 2002 CLK. Since someone else chromed your wheels, Mercedes-Benz will not warranty that third party company’s work – regardless as to your mileage. Have you considered contacting the company that chromed your wheels?

As for finding someone to sell you wheels, Performance Products will sell you authentic 17-inch AMG W209 twin five spoke wheels.

My MB CLK320 is a 2005 and I understand that it is not a wheel that came on the car originally, however, AMG is still owned by Mercedes Benz so I would hope that they would warranty their product. I love my CLK cabriolet and would want to keep it or upgrade to the newer model, however, now I am having second thoughts.
