2000 CLK430 & 2000 Expedition on 22's
Question Will 20"x8.5" wheels fit on a '00 CLK430?

Is it possible to fit 20"x8.5" wheels on a 2000 CLK430 with lowest profile tires possible, without mods?

Or what modifications would be necessary?

Thanks,

Tom

Felix was able to fit 20" Dronell rims on his CLK. It's possible to fit 20" wheels on the CLK w/ minor fender modifications.

I'm stuck. I've found a set of rims I really like. And they offer them in 20x8.5 or 19x7.5 or 18x7.5. I'm not sure how 7.5" rims would look on all fours? I am almost thinking of putting air ride on my CLK, so I could raise and lower it when needed. It would be nice to have an air ride setup on 18's or 19's so you could really tuck them, but again, I'm not sure how 7.5" wide rims would look all the way around. With 20's, I don't know that air ride would be necessary. Could you tuck 20's at all. I'm stuck, someone HEEELPPP!!!!! lol...

Thanks

7.5 width seems like a little too skinny, you might want to add spacers to push the wheels out. We should have Felix to answer your questions becuase he has put 20s on his CLK.

Felix's screen name is Dronellis and hers's a pic of his ride. You can either PM him or send through e-mail b2116nv@hotmail.com . He's a very nice guy.

Thanks Bruce, I will e-mail him. Hey, that's a sweet CLK you have! If I remember reading correctly, you just lowered it some more?

Hey Bruce, I just read you were born Feb 16th '84? You were born 11 days after me. That's strange, I didn't think there was anyone my age in here, lol.

Used to be a CLK430
I just put 8.5" on the rear of my car with a 35mm offset, they sit too far in. Added a 12mm spacer and they fit better, but look nothing like Bruce's! Save yourself the heartache, buy at absolute minimum, 8.5", but shoot for 9-9.5"
Good luck!!

Isn't the stock setup for the rear 17x8.5" with a 35mm offset? And that sits too far in you think? With your spacers, does the wheel ride with all the car weight directly on the studs? I'm not too familar with the benz wheel setup, but on my expedition, I ran into the same problem, and had to get custom adapters machined, so all the wieght wasn't resting on the studs.

Yeah I just turned 19 last month, Ben's birthday too but he's copule years older than me. I had H&R springs and Koni shocks before, the front was sitting a lil too high so I cut one coil, looks much nicer now.

As for wheels, I would recommend at least 8" in the front and 9" in the rear, this way the wheels wont be too far in, you want the wheels to pop out because it's not a honda, it's an euro. I have 8.5" in the front and 10" in the back w/ custom offset from iforged, the wheels sit perfect. You might want to roll your fenders when you try to fit bigger wheels on the car, just to prevent rubbing, it will wear out ur tires faster if u didn't roll them.

Do you know how wide I can go up front and in the rear and still be able to tuck the wheels into the fenders? So if I do go with an air ride setup. Would I be able to tuck 8.5" upfront and 9.5" in the rear?

In this case I would do 8" front and 9" back or 8.5" all around.

Bruce, with your wheels setup, would you be able to tuck the wheels into the fender wheels if you dropped it lower (such as the Red CLK from Seattle), or would they hit your fenders if you lowered it anymore?

I just took a look at my CLK and it seems with 7.5" up front and 8.5" in the back, that if I went any wider, I wouldn't be able to lower the fenders over the top of the rims, if I had an air ride system. If I remember correctly, some CLK's have 9.5-10" wide rims tucked in there. Am I missing something here, how do they go that wide?

What option I have for the wheel I am looking at is. They make a 19"x7.5" and a 20"x8.5". I could put the 19's up front and the 20 in the back. Do you think that would look very good or even noticable that one was bigger?
