Driver/Passenger Door Windows
Hi, anyone that can confirm?
Recently bought a CLK 320 Coupe and have conflicting information about the electric windows. When the doors are opened are the windows supposed to lower slightly and then go back up after the doors are closed as is the case with cabriolet models? The windows on my coupe don't do this which causes the window to close on top of the door rubber instead of underneath the rubber lip when the doors are closed.
Any info appreciated.

98 and 99 models don't but the 2000+ do. i haven't figured out how to do the programing for that. but the 98 and 99 also don't have the auto up options ado the switches have the option but i figured out it's just a programing thing and had my mechanic program that into my car now i have auto up and down and mine is a 99

Thank you very much for the reply Sir, mine is a 98 model, I'll speak to the local mb workshop and see if they are able to do that programing for me. Seems simple enough, but do they have to strip the door paneling do do that or is it programed else where on the car?

unfortunatly its not anything we can do, and doesn't require taking the door apart, my mechanic did it with his benz compter through the connection under round cap on the ecu box. most mechanics will tell you its not possible but the mechanic has to really know about benz and this guy is one of the top benz mechanics. if anyone wants to get this done and they are in CA i can put you in touch with my mechanic.

My 98 model does however have auto up/down the only thing it doesn't do is open slightly from full up when the door is opened. Thanks for the help and I'll see if there are any true benz mechanics in Cape Town.

Also..just as an FYI, its actually the 2001 and up my 2000 does not have the auto down when you open the door but my friends 2001 does have this nice feature.
I wish mine had this because sometimes I have to do it manually to cut down the wind noise while on the freeway.

seems all the cabrios if not mistaken have the feature but us lowly coupe owners are relegated to the manual slight down/up after climbing behind the wheel. amazing how much wind noise is generated by the window not seating properly. a friends 96 SL500 even has the feature.....go figure!

When I had my '99 430, I had the same wind issues (worse in winter). It was fine when it was new. I realised that the rubber was getting old and less flexible with age. This allowed wind to creep in and during the winter, the glass actually got stuck outside the track when I closed the door. I fixed it by replacing the rubber gasket all the way around the window. Immediately, all the wind /door closing issues disappeared. I did not do the work myself. I had a local body shop do it for me.

Good point, I suppose the door rubbers are the easiest quick fix especially since mine is 12 years of age now. Will carry out a replacement and see how it works.
