I want an in-dash single CD!
I don't care if I have to lose the trunk changer, I just want a single in-dash CD player. Is the a CD player that can hook up to the existing head unit? Is there another head unit I can replace it with that matches the Mercedes look?
Help!
I've got an '01 clk430 with the Bose system.
Who's Steve, and how do I get in touch with him? Does he have a deal on the Command system?

I'm asking, because I was thinking about having the changer installed in my car. The dealer told me the wiring is already in place, but it would still set me back a whopping $1400!!! He says there is an aftermarket one they could install that is basically the same thing for $650. I still think this is unreasonable for a trunk mounted changer. The local car audio shop says they don't carry any changer that will work in my car. The thing is, I have been everywhere I can think of, and almost nobody sells music cassettes anymore. I just hate to throw money at the Bose system, unless I can get an acceptable improvement in sound quality.
The service guy told me that they will soon be able to retrofit the older CLKs with the new DVD based COMMAND rather than the CD based units, but couldn't say exactly when, or how much.
The way I understand it, almost any aftermarket single DIN head unit can be installed in the dash, but not without loosing the steering wheel control functions.
GaryL: A lot of people are selling their cd changer online. Check ebay or the Classifieds here. They should be cheaper than $650 if you don't mind it being used. I don't know what aftermarket CD Changer your stealership was talking about as there is only one CD changer that can work with the D2B system. Maybe he was going to get a used changer and call it 'aftermarket' while making money off you.

I also have a 01 CLK 430 with the Bose system, but no changer in the trunk...just the in-dash cassette. I assume you have the OEM changer in your trunk. Are you looking to move to an in-dash unit for convenience, or because of poor sound quality from the factory changer?

As for the Audio 10--DOES ANYONE HAVE THE PART NUMBER??? I called my MB dealer and they sais it wasn't coming out until the Summer--(?!) But it sounds like some people already have them...
BTW, only two companies make the new Fibre Optic. Both German based. I can get the names if you would like.
YES, please let us know where to find an Audio 10 for direct replacement for the in-dash cassette player!!
TIA!!
Also, there's tons on German Ebay (www.ebay.de). Translated page http://babelfish.altavista.com/babel...p=de_en&tt=url and do a search for Audio 10 CD. Contact the person and ask them if they are willing to send to the US and check their background to make sure they dont have any negative ratings/feedbacks. Good luck.
