CLK Transmission Bump and Grind
I got it towed to a transmission shop this morning but haven't heard yet. I figure I will need a new transmission. Sucks because I just dropped $400+ on motor mounts and suspension parts that I was going to put in this weekend.
Any thoughts MBWorld?
99 CLK320 w/ 116,000mi, no history or signs of trans. problems
I did a lot of calling around and research. One thing I found was that it's almost impossible to find a replacement trans for these cars. Every year, every model, and even different parts of the year, the factory will have different configurations in the TCM (transmission control module). You can't reprogram one so it has to be an exact match....basically a CLK430 that came off the line around the same time yours did.
A basic trans overhaul/rebuild takes care of everything. Like I said, I had mine done for $2500, warrantied for 12,000/1year.
