Please help: Door Problems

My driver side door started to act up and when I open or close it, it makes a clicking/clunking noise. Two of them depending how far I open the door.

Anybody has any ideas what could be the problem.

I live in Los Angeles, can anybody recommend a reliable and reasonably priced
mechanic/body shop experienced to fix my problem?

Appreciate any help.

thanks.

"Door check straps" could be your issue. Usually inexpensive.

How could this happen. Never heard of this kind of problem happening to another brand of car??!!!

Hey joeray,

I had the same problem last year with my 2000 clk 430 cab. I ended up just using a 10mm socket wrench and tightening all the screws in the side of the door connecting it to the body. I was also very shocked that these screws could just come loose! Makes me wonder what other screws may be loose in the car.

I just had my door-stop latch break on me too, I fear opening my window until I get the part in to replace it, heard it could damage your window frame.

it's a common problem on many cars, not just benz. i've seen it on vw's, bmw, honda, etc. the drivers door check gets the most use. after 10 years, i don't think it's a drastic problem. i like the design of ours better than the ones that are welded in such as a toyota sienna van (which fail within the first 4 years).....those are a bear to replace, repair, reinforce and can be expensive.

on the benz, usually when you hear them clunking, you just tighten the bolts up and you're good for another 10 years.....
