Magnaflow muffler install on CLK 430--inlet diamater?
Hi folks,
I have been working on installing a Magnaflow muffler on my 2000 CLK430.
I've read here that the inlet diameter should be 2.25", but he's recommending a 3" inlet, saying that the 2.25" would run like crap. I didn't measure the pipe going into the stock muffler, but it sure looks bigger than 2.25".
Any experience or thoughts?
Thanks and regards,
e harmon

I went with the 3" inlet, specifically the offset/center (single out) #12229. Installed an oval tip and painted the whole thing black for the stock look. Prior to installing the muffler I replaced the resonator with a straight pipe.
I really like how it sounds under 25% or more throttle, but the jury is still out on whether I'll leave the resonator off, as I do occasionally get a droning sound inside the car. Seems to be mostly when the car is relatively cold and under very light throttle, such as to maintain residential street speeds.
For what it's worth, I got no drone whatsoever with the resonator out and the stock muffler still in. But that wasn't enough fun![naughty](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/naughty.gif)
