Right Front Lower-Control Arm

I had my front end analyzed and was told that my right front lower control arm is bent. Therefore I could not bring my car into full alignment, and the outside of my right front tire is wearing very quickly (the threads are already showing through the rubber). Assuming the advice I received is correct and I need to replace the control arm, what are your thoughts on my plan to install a used one purchased from a local auto wrecker? They say it appears straight upon a visual inspection, and it'll cost me close to $100, including shipping. I can't seem to find an new OEM control arm anywhere, so I am thinking that Mercedes has never released the specs for the control arm and therefore no one but Mercedes carries/sells the part new. I've been told it'll cost me between $350 and $450 for a new part from the dealership. Is it worth the risk to buy this used part? Anyone on the forum have a straight one they want to sell me?

Thanks.

if possible look at the car that is wrecked to see where most of the damage was...if it was in the front or side near the fenders i wouldnt risk it

Great idea. The wrecker's yard is too far away from me for it to be worthwhile to go check out the car in person, but I can certainly call and ask where the car sustained the most damage. Thanks for your suggestion.

I replaced both of my lower control arms my self! (Im 19) I had a little mishap with a curb at about 40 mph.. no good. anyways. i bought both of them used for about 100 each. both were straight as an arrow. and i was able to get my alignment right back in spec!

I also need to replace both LCA's on my 2000 CLK430 (W208).

I would like some info Re. the tools or procedure you used for compressing the spring, and the installation in general.

I've seen an exotic Benz spring compressor tool that goes up through the middle of the spring to compress it.

Can you describe how you installed the LCA's?

Thanks
