2001 CLK430 Cab.

Lights Won't Turn Off

I purchased a 2001 CLK430 that was originally sold in Canada. It therefore is set to have the headlights be on whenever the engine is running. There is no way for me to turn them off even though they are not required to be on here in the U.S.

Does anyone have any idea how to get them turned off? My dealer said they didn't know how to do this, and MBUSA says to ask the dealer to do it. HELP! Don

are you referring to daytime running lights? or are you saying that the headlights stay on after you park and leave the car? I know the canadian model come with day time running lights, which is cool... i wish the US models had it. If you are just concerned about the lights, can I ask why?

it doesn't consume too much power, and the bulbs are covered in warranty, so if it blows, just go to dealer and they'll give you new ones.

Daytime Running Lights

I'm in Toronto, Canada and mine has the mandatory Daytime Running Lights. It's a bit of a pain in the ***. If I wanted the lights on, I'd turn them on. So, I'm alos interested in finding a way to disable this "feature". I wish that it was as simple as a fuse. Maybe I'll disconnect the light bulbs or plugs. It's the 2 inner lights beside the headlights. Do those come on when the high beams are on?

The "Daytime Running Lights" are really the headlights (low beams) which automatically turn on when you start the car. I get sick of people telling me "my headlights are on" during the daytime and I'd rather have them off. There has to be a way to turn them off without taking out fuses etc, (plus I need them after dark) and it is not programmable through the instrument cluster. Don't know why MBUSA or MBCanada don't know the answer. Anyone? Don

just drive around during the day with your xenon's on ...... just turn your headlights on, i think it looks nice during the day too, nice and bright and it get you noticed and it doesnt use any power at all........

....I believe that the dealer can do it.....just have them plug in the Star Diagnosis machine and have them bring it back to American specs on the lighting....and while you are at it, have them bump up your Vmax to CLK55 limit.

I think day-time running lights are quite nice... most euros have this feature, including all the new benz. consider yourself special being one of the few CLK owners in the US with day-time running lights.
