Rear Main Seal

Has anyone changed out the Rear main seal on their clk??

Mine has had a minor leak and its starting to get bigger. I was looking to get the parts and have a buddy of mine do it for me.

I just need to get the parts.

Is this all I need? I'm also planning on replacing the fuel filter, and steering damper while I'm under there. Any other things I should do? The car only has about 40,000 miles.

Has no one ever had the rear main seal replaced?

By any chance does any one know where to find the part number to the real main seal? I can't seem to figure out how to link it correctly to autohauaz.

any info would be greatly appreciated.

99CLK320,
honestly, that is a dealer/oem specific part and I don't beleive autohauz will have it. I want exhaust manifold gaskets and they are not listed on the site.

The rear main seal is part number 1129970246. It's $23 at the dealer. The same part fits the 430, 320, 350, 500, 55, 600, 65, and 63.

When I did my Kleemann headers I ordered exhaust manifold gaskets from autohausaz. They were listed under engine gaskets not exhaust system.

To the OP. Sorry for the hijack.

Thanks MarcusF. Would you by chance know if I need anything else when I'm doing this job?

99CLK320,
don't mean to hijack the thread but sucidial, thanks and, are they OEM gaskets and did you get a good seal i.e. no exhaust leaks. if anyone one knows if the gaskets from the dealer are superior I don't mind at all paying an extra buck per gasket for a superion product especially when it comes this particular application. TIA, dlb

Since you have to drop the trans, a full trans service.

MarcusF, I assume that would include a full flush and changing of the gaskets?

By any chance would you know what the part numbers are? Also, how many quarts of trans. fluid am I going to need? 8 or 9?

Thanks again.

you are going to need more the 8 or 9 qts if you want to do a transmission flush. i just did one for my buddy's clk430 and we used close to 12-13 qts to completely flush out all the old.

order the filter from the dealer. your car has a reusable rubber pan gasket. no need to replace it unless you see leaks.

thanks for the info. Opalw208.

Should I be doing any other maintenance at this time, I'm coming up to 40,000 miles on the car?
