RED LIGHT CAMERAS ON LONG ISLAND
Hey Guys,
How's everyone. As you may not know, I live on Long Island. Since the "Police" recently put up these stupid RED LIGHT CAMERAS every where I wanted to know if anyone has received a ticket? If so, did anyone bother fighting it or just pay the $50 fine. If so, was it near the Roosevelt Field Mall because I have been nailed their twice (turning into the mall).
Thanks,
Steve

It is simpler and cheaper to pay the fine, you are lucky not to be caught by a cop that would issue you a ticket that would follow with points. Pay the fine, call it a day. You won't win on this one.

No, because the ticket was not issued to a driver but to the plate. It wouldn't be fair if someone was driving your car blew a red light and you would get points for there mistakes. No points on red light camera. Pay the ticket, call it a day.

In vancouver they have had those cameras for the last 10 years, and if you are driving someone elses cars then the person who owns the car has to write a letter to the courts or call to tell them someone else was driving, and if you run the light they have you on camera so you cant really dispute the ticket. The good thing with traffic laws here are that is the cop doesnt show up for court your off the ticket, and if he does you can say I cant pay right now can I have up to a year to pay and the courts here usually do that. So atleast that gives you about 2 years before you even have to put out money, well thats how it is out here i dont know about the usa, and also you never plead guilty in the court of law cause half the time witnesses dont show up cops etc then theres no case your off. And also never talk to the police, number 1 rule. You give name adress id thats it. and you have the right to remain silent, and if you talk the more questions they ask the more deeper in the hole you go example, oh sorry officer I ran the light cause i was in a hurry, now they can bring that up in court what you said. I have even gotten a ticket and i disputed it and I showed up to court and he didnt even remember what happend and I got off the ticket

My niece got a ticket from one of these for making a right on red in suffolk county. I heard that the ones on long island don't take a picture of the driver, and I heard elsewhere that if there's no picture of the driver you can plead not guilty and say it wasn't you driving. If they don't have a picture of you driving they can't prove it was you
Although my niece said there was a video of her making the right on red, not sure if her face was clearly visible
I know that cameras in other areas do take pictures of the driver, specifically for this reason. People were saying it wasn't them driving, and there was no way to prove otherwise.
Anyway this site has a map showing the camera locations, and a way to view your drive to work (or wherever) and see all cameras on the route

If Atlanta and several other big cities are an indication it will only be a matter of time before the cameras no longer work and they do nothing but gather dust. The light cameras are a contracted product / service. While you may get a ticket frm the PoPo the cameras are run, monitored and serviced by a contracted company. One or two budget meetings down the road and after paying for something that does not pay for itself in a certain matter of time, certainly not generate revenue after cost, they just shut em down!
My advise; be careful, pay attention at intersections and know it's only a matter of time before you can freely speed through red lights to your hearts content.

Your point on the economics of the cameras is well taken.
In my county, tickets are not issued if you were simply "in" the intersection when a light turned red - i.e., you entered on yellow, but did not clear it before it went red. However, you do get one if it is red when you enter the intersection. As you should. At the moment, there is plenty of revenue coming in, because we have a serious problem with red light runners and deadly crashes.

[QUOTE=Skylaw;4401306]And eventually crash and die. Hopefully, not taking innocents along, but how likely is that?
That was an implied, second point to go along with the economics!
My question for you is where your Avatar is from?
Thanks,
Matt

I live in Chicago and they put these up a couple of years ago. One town removed all cameras because the village felt they caused more harm than good. I support removing all of them. People were being fined for not stopping long enough at red lights when they were making a right hand turn. So people were stopping through green lights and causing accidents. We pay taxes to have uniformed police officers safegaurding us. Not cameras and highschool dropouts watching a tv screen We shouldn't willingly allow big brother to monitor our every move. Just saying
