Hi,
I've been shopping around for an extended warranty for my 99 CLK, and I've been getting diffrent prices from diffrent warranty companies from diffrent dealerships and its driving me totally nuts.

here is a small list with their prices:
-----
Fletcher Jones Motor Cars
Warranty: DFS Autoextend
+24months 72k $2431

2yrs, 24,000 $2228
3yrs, 36 $2788
------
Calabasas Motorcars
Warranty: Warrantech
$50 deductible
5yrs $3591
------
Glendale benz
warranty: servicegaurd nationwide insurance
4yr 75k $2086
5yr 75k $2134
5yr 100k $2413
5yrs 60k $2052
7yrs 75k $2291
0 deductible on all.
-----

As you see, the prices are much diffrent, and I have no idea which to go with. what do you guys recommend and what has been your experience with extended warranties?

thank you.

i bought the factory extended warranty, which is probably the best. but being that you have a '99, you won't qualify for that.

If in the super slim chance that your car is still under warranty, try and get the Daimler-Benz Warranty.

Give Lisa a call over at Courtesy Motors (SF Bay area). She helped me no my warranty and saved me som $$$. She should be able to help you with the warranty stuff. I bought mine over the phone/fax. Very easy, hassle free.

Lisa Marie Lehrbaum
530-893-1300

Or you can give MBUSA a call, they should know what is up.

Lisa is by far the best, errr THE BEST person that works for a mercedes-benz related entity that I had the pleasure of talking to.

SHE IS SIMPLY THE BEST!

MMgrad: The extended warranty from the MB dealer, may I know what the coverage is? Is it only on the engine?

If I bring the car to the track, is it going to void the warranty?

Thanks,

Solihin

Yeah, Lisa is a really really nice person. Soft spoken, zero pressure, and easy to talk to.

So was she able to strike you a good deal? What are the terms and coverages you got?

As long as you don't tell them you take the car to the track frequently, i'm sure it is covered. I don't think they can deny warranty service on the grounds that you took the car to the track either, but if they ask, just say you drive it like any other normal person.

The MB Factory Extended warranty covers the following:

Main Coverage bullet points:
-Engine
-Transmission
-Rear Axle
-Electronic Traction System (ETS)
-Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR)
-Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
-Cooling System
-Fuel Injection System
-Steering System
-Suspension
-Brake System
-Electrical System
-Climate Control
-Body (window regulators, sunroof motors and cables, etc...)
-Central Locking System
-Towing

Let me know if you need to know the specifics of the coverages and whats included in each section.

But in short, it basically covers most everything the factory warranty, less the cosmestic, audio/nav, phone and a few other electrical stuff.

Thanks mmgrad, may I know how much they charge you for the extended warranty. My car is a 2002 CLK 430 with almost 10,000 miles. Any guess on the premium?

If I want to keep my car in a long time, I might want to get the extended warranty. but at this time, im still not sure whether I want to keep the W208 for more than 4 years.

One more thing, with the warranty from Courtesy Motors, is it going to be the same with the extended warranty from an MB dealer?

Any hassle in having the warranty from a company other than MB dealer?

THanks,

Solihin

solihin,

Courtesy Motors is an MB dealer, Lisa just cuts her profit margin so she can complete more deals. Its better for everyone this way.

if you want to purchase a warranty from Lisa or any MB dealer, you must do so within the first year of owning your car. If you wait past the 1st year anniversary, then you no longer qualify for the MB Factory Limited Extended Warranty. After that, the next closest thing would be the Daimler-Benz warranty, which is a little more expensive.

There are other warranty companies out there.

Pros:
-possibly cheaper
-can be purchased anytime before factory warranty expires

Cons:
-possible more expensive
-limited to specific contracted service repair shops
-possible deductible
-you pay first, then get reimbursed
-sometimes you need pre-approval inspections to verify that it is or is-not a warranty repair

the MB factory extended warranty offers the best peace of mind... The W208 CLk is a great car... very much worth holding onto for several years...

forgot to answer your first question... i paid a little over $2,000 for the premium extended warranty: total 7yrs/100,000 miles. i think the face value of this warranty is about $2,800-$3,500.
