Compare Projectors, tips, critiques: Halo vs. Cheese Graters
Compare Projectors, tips, critiques: Halo vs. Cheese Graters.
Re. Black projector head lamps for W208, it seems the choice is limited to two units.
The older "cheese graters" manufactured by Depo.
The more recent "angel eye halos" manufactured by Spyder Auto.
Has anyone installed/used any of these, that can provide a comparison/tips/critique of them ?
Here is what I have found so far.
The halos have two free wires coming from the halo ring, and these additional wires need to be connected to something ?
The halos have a yellow bulb that is not preferred, and the yellow bulb is typically replaced by some sort of "chrome bulb ?
The halos have a too thick rubber fitment ring around them that causes them to misalign with the fenders and hood, and typically they are fitted using the rubber fitment ring from the original OEM lamps that they are replacing.
Can anyone add any more of this sort of info ?
Thanks

i got the halos and its comes with 3 extra wires on the bottom for the halo rings and a led light ...... actually the yellow signal light looks awesome ... im leaving it just the way it is... u can connect those extra wires to anything ... either ure day lights or ure side marker lights...whatever is easier for u...and thats if u actually want the halo rings to be on "alot of people dont cause they think its biting off the beamers" but whatever i have mine on and the car looks alot better ...... if u dont have hid yet.... get the kit that comes with it.... just plug and play....

08 CLS550, 99 clk430 W208 (sold), 06 ML350 W164, 07 Kawasaki ZX10-R,
I'm thinking about replacing OEM with halos. I already have factory HID, so I can just pop the old ones out, use the existing ballasts/bulbs and then install the new ones? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but there's no better place to get answers than from those that have already done it!

I' am looking for a bunch of the same answers myself. I currently have OEM Xenon cheese graters. and really wanna get some Halos; mostly because I dont like that my high beam is incandescent. am I to understand that these halos might not change that?

To catalyst06 I heard our factory hid kit doesn't fit the aftermarket projectors cuz they have a diff bulb type.if I'm not mistaken they're h1 bulbs.
To nicgentile I'm comnfused about the type of headlights u have.u said u have oem cheese graters.cheese graters are aftermarket projector headlights unless ur car came with them when u bought them.if so let me know if ur interested in selling them.

This doesn't sound right; stock OEM HIDs use D2R bulbs, aftermarket HID kits usually use H7. There's an adapter that you have to slightly modify to get D2R (or now that you have projectors you can actually get D2S for slightly better output) to fit the H7 socket. Just do a search for "H7 D2S adapter" on ebay or google and you should be able to find it.

This is what I have (see attachment)
The main light is Xenon and the secondary/smaller/high beam is old school yellow.

Twinsin thanks for the info,I wasn't to sure about what type of bulb size it was.but the adapter is a good idea saves money and parts just sitting around to be sold.
To nicgentile, the way I found the bulb type was on sylvania bulb guide.they tell u everything bulb type for ur car.if u still have trouble finding it,shoot me a pm.I might still have the ebay seller saved.
Oh yeah jbenz99 nice car!
