secondary cats deleted

just deleted my cats yesterday and all i can say is wow!the sound is noticable instantly.i have my res deleted also.the two combos make the car sound great around 3000rpm.im worried if installing headers and a diff muffler will make the car sound alittle to loud.
does anybody have a complete full exhaust from the headers that can fill me in about that setup?

99CLK320,
headers are hard to come by and expensive if you want long tube/racing style headers. Kleeman definitely has them $1500+600 to install and tune your ECU because your primary cats and O2sensors go. if you live in CA you do not want to do that. Or you can contact ghostrider on this board who has fabricated short tube headers at a much more reasonable price. they bolt on, do not eliminate the primary cats and sensors and give nice improvement to performance. Williams007 has a set that he dynoed and he posted a graph that showed something like 7-10 hrspwr more. I have a set also and did not dyno. Keep in mind, you have a 3.2 litre V6 and you can't make it go that much faster unless you want to spend huge dollars. Get your ECU jacked up by Powerchip, INMotionusa, Speedtuning or the like. you just pull out your computer send to them, they crank it up to 91 or 93 octane, which ever you use ALL the time and you get a very noticeable improvement. the three things that have made my car run better for the least amount of $ are chip tune, short tube headers, cold air intake from VIPclk320(another fabricator on this board)and a pulley kit, which I am about to purchase from Evosport. trust me, I have researched this subject till the cows come home.

To delbehrns yeah I've done my research also with inmotion and kleeman.I saw williams thread also.ghost headers did impressive numbers.I already have the pulleys done so next will be headers.ill have to do more research on who adds more power out of their headers.eventually I know throwing a v8 is the best way to go or just buy n 430/55.out here they don't check for cats.just test for emissions which I have connections with.thanks for the info though.will figure something out.

How much did the headers cost and how long did they take fabricate?

when i talked to Kleeman, he told me: headers are waste for this car unless u got V8.
i agree with dlbehrns, just chip it out and u are done with your car.

as a matter of fact, that is the email from Kleeman:

Hi Mike-

KLEEMANN never made headers for the M112 V6 cars. I've modified one set of W208 V8 headers to fit a V6, however, they required extensive modifications on top of what I did by the installing dealer to fit on the car, and the power gains were not impressive- 15 crank HP is all that was had. The pipe diameter we use for V8 cars is much too large to use on a V6 car. With that being said, I'm not willing to make another set with the knowledge that they'll need to be modified even further to fit, and they don't provide very good HP gains. The V8 headers are priced at $1500.00, and they require 5 hours ($500.00) worth of my time to modify for a 6-cyl, not to mention the additional modifications that will need to be made to get them to fit on the car. At the end of the day, you're looking at a set of $2000.00 headers with another 10 hours of labor to modify and fit them to the car for a very small 15 HP gain. Headers are just not worth doing on the M112 engine compared to what it costs.

KLEEMANN had one batch of W211 headers (approx, 5 sets) which were not welded properly (no flux was used on the back side of the weld joint). This was an isolated incident, and hasn't been a problem since.

ECU tuning is another thing that's not going to add much power- 15 crank HP at bes
t. Our ECU tunes are $1100.00

Hope that helps answer your questions.

Thanks!

99CLK320,
"Our ECU tunes are $1100.00" Thats very pricy. In only paid $200 for my chiptune and it made a big difference. You won't get it for that today. You can get it done at INMotionusa for around 4-5 bills. Powerchip claims a bit more hrspwr than some of the other for around 8 bills.

So I guess the best person to talk to is ghost and inmotion for the chip tune.so dlbehrns how does ur car sound now that uve installed the header?also have u done any of the deleted pipes to urs.I'm just worried that it'll be to loud with them.
Thanks bigmike for the info,I swear that on their website it says that they make some for our car.I guess not.

99CLK320,
pm ghostrider not ghost for cost. the headers didn't make my car louder. maybe a little as as far as the engine noise goes but I still have the OEM exhaust. Williams007 has a SuperSprint exhaust and ghostrider headers plus, he has a Japanese model that has no primary cats. you might pm him for feedback on sound. sound is not important to me, just performance i.e. mileage+acceleration

Those are nice, thanks for the link.but yeah for now I'm good wit my set up.it sucks that its not a cat back exhaust.I have a dual exhaust set up that I'm selling.if not its go n on so ill get an idea of what it might sound wit headers cuz the muffler has been gutted.
