(The following is a step by step installation with out pictures of how to install illuminated door sills).
If you want the pictures included, send me your e-mail address.
(It's a very large file)
Installation of Illuminated Door sills on a CLK55 AMG
This is a Do It Yourself (“DIY”) installation of how to install aftermarket Illuminated door sills.

I installed the Illuminated Door Sills on my 2002 CLK55 AMG. This should work for just about any Mercedes that Illuminated doorsills are made for. If you are trying to adapt this to a sedan or SUV just repeat the process for each additional door.

Tools needed:
DC Volt meter Electrical Tape
Wire cutters Heat shrink tubing (optional)
Wire stripers Soldering iron and Solder (optional)

The first picture is what comes in the box.

Out of the box
2- Chromed Door sills with Double sided adhesive on the backside
2- Light strips, with relays and connectors

Step one:
Remove OEM doorsills,
These are a little difficult to remove, try pulling up at a couple of different locations as to not distort the doorsill.

Step Two:
Remove the Vertical Cloth covered trim piece off the rear of the doorsill

Step Three:
Open the plastic cable tray near the rear

Step Four:
Locate the switch wire (Ground) Brown with a Blue strip.

Step Five:
Locate the thick Red wire in the wire tray.

Step Six:
After locating and verifying that the Brown wire with the Blue strip is the correct wire. (Check this with your voltmeter. When disconnected the windows should roll up the last half inch. Cut and splice the Brown and blue wire with the Black (Ground) wire from the Illuminated light strip. Either solder them together or twist them and then cover wire splice with either heat shrink tubing or electrical tape.

Step Seven:
Cut and splice the Red wire from the cable tray and the Red wire from the Illuminated strip. Verify that this is the 12volt power source. This should be hot all the time.

Cover the splice with either Heat Shrink Tubing or electrical tape.

Step Eight:
Check that the light stays illuminated while the door is open.
Check that the light goes out by pressing the door button in the door jam.

Step Nine:
Place the excess cabling in the cable tray. Close the cable tray covers.
Re-install the Vertical Cloth covered trim piece

Step Ten:
Remove the clear plastic cover from the Illuminated strip.
Remove the two small strips of red plastic from the window area of the new doorsill
Place the Illuminated light strip over the “AMG” window (Light side down)
Press firmly on the light strip along the double-sided taped area to secure the light strip to the panel

Remove the remaining Red plastic cover from the backside of the Door Sill. Place the doorsill over the door jam and press firmly. Wipe clean and your done with this side repeat process for other side.

Finished product

Repeat for each door

Caution wire colors may vary vehicle to vehicle. Use the DC Voltmeter to verify that the wires you are going to splice are the correct wires.
(Warning you are attempting to modify your vehicle, you are taking on this task at your own risk)

Installation for an SLK is different and more involved than the other cars, FYI. It's real easy for the other cars.
