Question Just curious regarding our engine

what's a good swap for it and for reasonable price? ( taking another engine from a diff FASTER benzito and letting it work with our transmission.)
Thoughts please.... i looked into kleemann superchargers and its ridiculous and beside labor too.

I have seen working 55 engines on Ebay for as cheap as 1500 bucks and as expensive as 10grand. You just have to keep looking until you find a good buy. Mbenzman even did a swap with an E55 SC'd 55 engine but ran into some issues that definitely needed a pro to work out. It was definitely out of my DIY range.

You can buy my CLK55 Engine, Needs a rebuild but its not that extensive. Also, its cheap...way cheaper than $1500. Also, I have never seen a CLK55 engine on ebay for less than 5 grand, thats not saying they couldn't be found cheaper somewhere else, but no way you can find a perfectly working 55 engine for $1500 dollars. My engine still runs and drives, but needs work and I was only asking $900.00 for mine originally, but am now open to offers because I need to get the engine out of my garage.

Here is an E55 motor for only 2250.00 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Engin...item41538dabc3 so yeah they can be had for cheaper. I saw one a month ago for only 1500 bucks..no one bid for it so I hope it comes up again after the new year!!

Now I do think your 55 is a good deal as well (assuming an easy fix) I am just not in the market right now. But I wish you luck in selling it.

But if the engine is apart and out of the car and you're looking to do a powerful swap, put a new set of forged pistons in it either raise the compression and have a sick N/A car, or lower the compression and put a super charger on it, thats just what I was thinking

And i wonder what the difference is between the 55 block and the 63 block. Does anyone know how far the engine can be bored out on stock sleeves?

And for 2250 you get 130k miles, which I would "freshen up" while it was out of the car.

try getting the differential from a w202 c230 kompressor c-class (year 2000) with the tcu in passenger foot well, its ratio is 3.27 u should have now a 3.07, it will really make a difference, i used to run that before on my clk320 and a friend now is running it. about the bigger engine i bit too many bullets get a bigger car ur better off trust me ...

99CLK320,
mike, just buy a 55. I know you don't want to let go of your convertible but if you want a faster car you will be money ahead and a million less headaches if you just buy a 55. look at cars.com or autotrader.com for the years 2000 thru 2002. there are plenty to chose from

99CLK320,
Yeah, get yourself a 55coupe so you can go fast then drive your vert when you are crusin. If you have a REALLY good indy who knows exactly what he's doing you could pull it off but, you don't have the right transmission and rear end to go with the big motor, different ECU, airbox, alternator, maybe AC, motor mounts, exhaust is diff blah, blah, blah......blah. If you have money to burn, go for it. Listen to Daddy. he's a smart man. Bryant, how many miles on yours, what color, where do you live?

'00 Mercedes 430/55 clk cabriolet
Hi Mike. If you had $3000 and a CLK430 I would say do the engine swap. A CLK320 just has too many bits to change over. The 430 diff and tranny can handle a 55s power but you would run into ECU problems and would need to buy a 55s ECU or have someone custom tune the 430s (spending a day on it).

I think you should save up and buy a 55. If you sold your 320 you could get a 55 cab and transfer all your goodies onto it.

Because the economy is so bad for performance cars at the moment I'm sure if you hunted around you could pick up an '02 cheaper than you think.

I did my conversion a couple of years ago meaning to keep my car for a long time. The power is sooo addictive, but you also have to uprate the suspension, brakes, exhaust, and tyres and so on...

Good luck with what you decide, but listen to Daddy .

if you want to go all out and get major, do a 55 clk engineoff of the w208 because its more powerfull and less restricted then the w209 55 and add a kompressor off of e55 on top, but if you want a plug and play and more of a budget transplant do a 32k motor off of a c32 or slk32, because you can reflash your existing ECU and beefup your existing 320 tranny to make it work and that thing pushes 349HP. because you have a 320 this would be a easier, faster and cheaper swap.
