EMP Performance long tube headers

"Copy and Paste, remember that"!

Sorry, I was just talking to myself after posting this up twice already and it not saving. I should have done this at 9pm(Uk time).

Hi Guys and Girls

It's a week late, but we have touch down!
I posted up how Kleemann LHD long tube headers don't fit RHD cars so I got a set custom made.

EMP Performance a new Tuning shop in the UK have finnished making and have installed my new headers this evening.
It was late due to the snow slowing parts and because EMP have not made headers for a Mercedes in such tight confinements before.

Tomorrow they will make the underside pipes and then it'll be completely finnished.

My performance headers are made from aircraft grade steel which is 2mm thick, has mandrel bends and tig welds. The port openings are 1.75in, flowing into four separate branches then into a 2.5in collector. The 2.5in down pipe will connect to two 200 cell 'bullet' cats before flowing into a gradual custom 'Y' pipe, which opens to 3ins before ending at my new back box with twin exits.

I can't wait to hear the sound. It should have a nice deep tone. My previous headers from AMS had a deep tone, but because these new headers are larger the note would have changed.
I won't feel much difference (hopefully I will) until I get a new custom tune.

Here's a sneak preview of the passenger header branch (I think). There are more pictures but they are on EMPs camera which they said they would put on a disc for me.

If I get some time before Christmas I'll get my custom 8 pot Brembo brakes done.

Enjoy!

Nice headers! I wish true longtube headers were available for our cars with bigger runners and a 3" merge. One can dream

99CLK320,
They kinda look like ghostrider's short tube header he fabed but with a larger collector. Yeah bb I agree but there isn't enough room. Kleemann is the only one, no?

Hey thanks for the positive comments Guys!

Sinister,

They are for a 55 but should be good for any V8 M113 engine (RHD of course).

Blackbenzz,

You're right on the 'true' long tube headers but as Dlbehrns said and you know, there just isn't enough room. These are a little longer than 'shorty' headers, they reach down to just above where long tubes would curl under the footwell.

To get these headers in, EMP had to partially raise the engine, take off the alternator and belt, remove my front strut brace and engine mounts.

Once I get the disc I'll post up more pictures.

Love what you're doing with your CLK Paul - look forward to hearing more when you've got everything fully installed.

Quick update:

My new headers sound fantastic! A mix of American muscle and AMG 63.

I've noticed that they are quieter than my old AMS headers on tick over and cruising but when you put your foot down the thunder returns .

It's been a few days and I expected the ECU to adjust and the tone which is a few octaves lower to change, but so far nothing.

I have noticed a slight 'whoosing' sound when you put your foot down which I am told because they are tubelar exhausts is the sound of the exhaust gasses mixing in the pipes.

I haven't had it custom tuned yet I'm waiting on new 'bullet' style 200 cell cats to go on in January (my car is catless at the moment).

I've noticed an increase in power and torque, I'm still waiting for EMP Performance to give me the cd pictures so I guess after the holidays I'll put them up.

On the whole I am pleased. Roll in the New Year!

Hi dlbehrns

It was £1600!

Expensive I know, but don't forget this was custom made from scratch, has mandrel bends and tig welding, which are expensive.

The end result looks very nice. I honestly believe it's better than Kleemanns own (which I sent back). I did a search and this quality of work should cost twice as much, so I'm very pleased.

I've tried a few headers now and I truely believe you get what you pay for.

The headers are turning a nice gold colour now! But as I said the proof will be given once my ECU has been custom tuned .
