Sunroof problem!
Hey guys, last night I opened the sun roof and it was having problems. It would get stuck in the middle or near the end but it'll never close. This had been a on going issue. I'm afraid to open the roof now cause I'm scared it'll get stuck again! If anyone has any ideas to fix this problem please let me know! Thank you

One try to get it closed for now; theres a plastic wind breaker that comes up, when closing sunroof with button guide this plastic peice down as it closes. It tends to jam up on this.
I recently had mine taken care of during my warranty services so they just went the easy way and replaced the whole frame. Dunno if theres a simple way.
MarcusF had a close to similar issue we diddled with during a meet, maybe he can chime in if he got his fixed.

Take it to someone who knows how to grease the rails properly. If your car has been serviced by an independant mechanic, they don't usually touch the roof and over the years, the grease will dry up. The stealership might be a good start. It won't cost much.

OK, Marcus helped me out and hopefully he'll chime in to post the picture he has posted before on this issue, but I'll try to explain this.
If you open up your sunroof all the way, get out of the car and look at it from the outside. There is a plastic piece on towards the front of sunroof on both driver/passenger sides, right by the rail that will move back and forth (towards/away from you). All you need to do is push those pieces closer to the sliding rail (inward). That should do the trick.
It's hard to explain, but I'll see if I can't find that thread where Marcus posted the picture of what needs to be done...

99CLK320,
I would really like to know how to grease the sunroof properly. I printed out a DIY and it never worked. I greased what I thought the pictures portrayed but the roof still ran stiff.

Ok, now that's good to hear....I just purchased a '98 CLK320, and am currently having the same issue with my sunroof. It will open (popup/ vent), but will not slide back (moonroof). I will definitely try all your suggestions and let you know.

...old thread reborn..
the first thing that I would do is to grease the rails....then do a reset....move sunroof all the way open. If it stops after 2 inches, hit it to move some more. When it gets all the way back, press and hold the open button for 10 seconds.
Now do the same moving forward. When it's totally closed, hold close button for 10 seconds.
If those combos don't work, it's probably hitting the wind deflector as it is closing. I had a problem that the linkage was bent. No matter what I tried, it didn't work until I replaced it.
