2003 CLK 430 cab, K4, Nav
Proud New Owner

Proud new owner of a 2003 CLK430 CAB, k4, Command. Love the car. Got the black opal (which is really a very dark blue) because I dont see that many this color. I' m hoping it is a little easier to keep clean then black. Couple of things I don't understand.

1. Why is CD changer an option on a $62,000 car??
2. Why is the command nav cd and not DVD based as in the Acura
3. How can they have if you are using nav, cant use CD??
4. What, no tilt wheel?? (just telescoping)
5. I wont mention the cup holder

Taking it back to the dealer for the CD changer install, and bought the $40 MBZ coffee mug which almost fits the holder.

Minor complaints next to the incredible feeling of driving this car.

P.S. Does any one else have the Black Opal????

Isn't the Mercedes cup rather tall (tippy) in the holder? I use my Audi mug and it fits perfectly with no tipping/spilling.

Congratulations on the car.

It's probably cheaper to get the CD Changer outside the dealership as I hear their prices are twice as much as what online stores sell it for. Not sure on that comparison though.

Yes, it would be cheaper to have it installed outside, however I leased the car so I would rather have the dealer install it. I made them make it part of the deal. According to the contract, they pay $900 to have it installed. If they order it from the factory it only adds $400 to sticker. I don't know why they wouldn't order every single one with the changer.

I will also look into the Audi mug as the MBZ is very topsy. Thanks
for the advice

congrats!! I love black opal
1. its an option for the same reason that xenons are an option on $120000 SL55 and the CD changer is optional on $90000 S500. When I got my car i was pissed that i had to pay extra for a CD changer and xenons, but after seeing that people payin 100G'z had to pay extra I didnt feel so bad

They don't order every single one with a changer because there's an additional $500 to be made if they don't. Mercedes dealerships have "complimentary" doughnuts and coffee for a reaosn ;0).

Those doughnuts are actually laced with a drug that induces you to buy more and more parts from their service department or sales department so they make more money!

Well, three days into ownership and I gotta tell you I'm in love. Cruised from the San Fernando Valley to Ojai (for those of you who know So Cal) for a golf tournament. What a drive!! And the golf clubs fit in the trunk...barely. Any one have any luck with two sets??? Got a tournament in Palm Springs and it looks like I'm driving. Must say, I must have had "Big Car Goggles" on when I shopped this car. I swear the back seat was bigger!!! My six year old has trouble fitting back there. Anybody have any suggestions.....On how to stop a six year old from growing that is. By the way Nav worked flawless, engine purred, and car felt as stable at 90+ as it did at 65
