Manual vs. Auto
Hi Chaps,
New on here but just wanted a few opinions on Mercs figures. I recently purchased a 2000 clk 230k cab with a 6 speed manual box. I opted for a manual as my last 2 cars have both been autos and I've got a bit hacked off with the lower fuel consumption and drop in performance delivered from an auto.
Now according to Mercedes, the consumption and performance on the manual is the same as the auto (give or take a milli-drip). I disagree totally as it seems alot quicker to 60 than the quoted figures (compared with other cars of the same times) and my fuel consumption is a lot higher that Mercedes state of the manual - on a run the other day I pulled 45mpg over 60 miles!
Have Mercedes fiddled the figures to encourage people to stick with the auto or have they developed an auto box that's as economical as a manual?
I'm rather confused, but exceedingly happy with the drive, performance and consumption of this motor!!
Any views folks?
Alex.

They're not my calculations, I'm going off what the trip on the dash says. Since I've owned the car and done 2,500 miles they trip has averaged it as 32 mpg - that's mostly town driving.

with a light foot 32 should be no problem. Like I said 45 is on par with a prius. I dont see your boosted application capable of hybrid milage is all. My experience with manual vs auto has been no more than a 1-2 mpg difference on average. Here in the states we didnt get your configuration and only have the auto.

Mostly town driving for me means giving it a blast at least every 10 miles and sticking around the speed limits so not taking it too easy. Went for a drive over to Blackpool (about 30 miles away) last night with the Mrs and dog and pulled 45mpg again with the roof down as well.
