Where where where ? I believe it can only be bought from dealer (£250 UK, that has to be the most expensive key in the world). I really want this 'diy transfer circuit board', it will save me a bomb!

Well that all depends on what you're trying to achieve. If you want to update the look of the key to the new chrome one you can find a used key online and swap out the circuit board inside and there is a DIY for that on this site. If you want a second key for a backup or a spare you have to get it from the dealer as it has to be programed to your car.

there is a user that will swap out your "guts" for a minimum price. I got mine exchanged for about 90 shipped. (including the housing)

Ah, so if you want a replacement key it still costs you an arm & a leg. I won't be buying another Merc. I've got a CLK & an SL. I needed a basic metal bracket for the SL that holds the fuel filter & pumps, there is nothing complicated to it, it's a bracket (albeit roundish): £185, that's pounds, sterling, and yes they did check the price as I told them they obviously had the wrong part. £115 for the balance pipe between the downpipes on the SL, it's a metal tube! Over £280 for a headlight, and that was years ago. Over £250 for the CLK key. These are just stupid prices. I'd go back to BMWs but I'm not that impressed with their attitude in Customer Service (but Merc are brilliant at this, and so they should be for their prices!).
Maybe an Audi :-)

99CLK320,
"Ah, so if you want a replacement key it still costs you an arm & a leg" There is a MB dealer in Chicago that sold a new chrome key for under $200 and there is a thread on this issue on the w208 forum. Search it. All you had to do was give the Chicago dealer a call and give them your VIN I think. I can write down any VIN by looking through the front window so there has to be more to it than that. Google search MB dealers in Chicago.

You need to supply serious ID to get the key, so a dealer is Chicago is no use to anyone unless they live in Chicago.

99CLK320,
Mercedes-Benz of Naperville/Chicago said the price was $245 in person. Lincoln,NE Mercedes quoted without the VIN# $196.86 + tax but you would have to provide the VIN and pick it up and show registration and ID.
