Make sure to note that the CLK55K had an unmentioned broken hose clamp on the intercooler, leaving the intercooler useless. A properly working CLK55K would have more than an additionaly 100HP at the crank.

I rode in that car at Sprewell several months ago and there was no problem at that time that anybody knew of but Ill tell you that it pulled sooooo hard it was scary. My E55 pulls hard already and you could easily tell this car would kill mine.

Exclamation Kleemann CLK55 - only 345.90 Horsepower?

I thought a Kleemann supercharger on a CLK55 gets you a lot more than 346 HP. Is this website right?

Supercharged CLK55:

416.74 Horsepower at the crank (345.90 Horsepower at the rear wheels by adding 17% of 5-speed automatic transmission power-loss.)
434.93 ft lb of Torque at the crank (360.99 ft lb of Torque at the rear wheels by adding 17% of 5-speed automatic transmission power-loss. According to Mercedes-Benz factory data, a stock CLK55 is rated 342HP & 372ft lb of Torque. V8 / 5.5 Liter / SOHC)

Read this thread. When Jimmy was having that Dyno run, the intercooler was not working. Therefore, the numbers are approx 100 hp less than it should of been. The Kleemann CLK55K puts out about 550 hp at the crank.

Interesting.. Using a 18% loss ration through the auto trans, that would equate to approx 507.4 hp . Well below the 550 hp claim. Even using an exgagerrated 25% loss, you would be at 537.5 hp... Still below the 550 hp claim.

Any ideas on this Ben ?

I think the actual number was 437, I wrote 430+ because I was not sure, and did not want to quote more than the actual gains were. Using an 18% loss 437 would translate to 533 HP, which is closer to the 550. I can think of two possible explanations for still not hitting 550 exactly. 1. The ECU may not have completely adjusted to the changes made with the supercharger, and thus may not be completely efficient yet. 2. Given the traction problems that the 55K faces, it makes sense that dynoing the 55K would be equally difficult. The 55K does not accurately represent itself on the dyno due to this. In fact, when dynoing the 55K, you can't just step on the gas like with most other cars. I am not sure when the pedal actually went to the floor, but I think we had to wait until 3rd gear just to prevent the wheels from slipping.

Does anyone know if Sprewell has an auto-modification shop in the NY area. I read tons of stuff about him and how he's into souping up cars but never found out where his shop is. I desperately need to tranform my CLK.

let me know.

Excellent point... I would think this would cause major problems in getting an accurate dyno. Damn that ESP ! I remeber years ago some tuners made a module to completly disable ESP. I wonder if this type of module, if able to be made for the current crop of vehicles, would have a positive impact on the tuner community.....

Any body with a little knowlegde of cars and engines will be aware of the fact, that you can take 10 new cars of any make,
test them on a dyno and 10 different results will be discovered.

any engine will operate with a tolerance which will be somewhere
close to +/- 5%, we don't have to call a proffessor to calculate
that - 5% will be a lot more on 550 HP than on an engine with
150 HP.

KLEEMANN, posted a reply last week where he is explained how it all worked out.

Then you have to take a look at the dyno used, and investigate
the before run.
In the car Ben is reffering to, the dyno shows that the car is missing 10 HP from factory specs. add 10 HP to Bens 533 and you
will see 543.
Then there is the fact that the Dyno used is a DYNO JET, which
allways shows to little, compared to BOSCH dynos.

Another very important fact is that the KLEEMANN specs are 562 HP. In The US fuel High octane fuel is 91, in Europe it's 98 octane.
All newer MB cars have country coding, which means that the ECU
will be told which country the car is in.
In a country like the US where the fuel octane is low, ignition timing will be retarded 3-6 dergees and mixture made richer by
3-6 % compared to European version. This is seen clearly by
EU MB cars have more power than US models.

Give that CLK 55 EU ECU specs and 98 octane fuel, then you will
figure out the 562 HP KLEEMANN promise is a conservative figure.
I have seen Dynos at KLEEMANN in Copenhagen on 55 cars, showing 622 HP, so 562 is again a middle value, most will have more, a few less.

Why is so many people so interested if a car miss 10 HP or not,
you can still cut all ignition cabels on 2 cylinders and out drive any
other MB tuner in the world, with a KLEEMANN compressor on a 55
Even a 430 with compressor, will eat BRABUS ect.ect for breakfast.

Damn! 622hp! Didn't even know they can produce that much!

According to what Lucas is saying, MB's of different countrys have different codes in the ECU. What I'm wondering is: if I ship my car to a different country that has 98 octane fuel, is there a way to reprogram the ECU? Can this be done at a dealer?

You can reprogram the ECU, however, I don't know if a dealer will do it for you. I found a local gas station that has 100 octane. I briefly considered getting my ECU reprogrammed, however, my better judgment told me that limiting myself to 1 gas station would be problematic.

Ok ,first post...don't flame the new guy too hard. :-)

Speaking of Eurpoean ECUs and such, I bought my 55 used (1 month old, 200 miles on it) from a guy that basically orders cars and sells them (he's a friend, I didn't get raped...).

SUPPOSEDLY this car was special ordered by a guy in Dallas who knows someone at AMG. He wanted the fist one in town...this one was second. Or something like that. Anyway, I was told the speed limiter is gone, the ESP can be truly disabled, and other "tweaks" had been performed.

So far I've only been able to confirm that the speed limiter is not present at 155 (*smile*) and that the ESP will not re-engage if I just stand on the gas ( the car will just spin tires until partway through 2nd gear)

Is there a way to test the ECU to see if it's European? Maybe a diagnostic plug I can get to? Where is it? Can I just look at it?

Hey Guys

Any MB workshop can change the country codes, if they will ????
that up to them.

Sax maniac :

Your local MB shop can read out which country code there is in your car, but you need the " Star diagnose " (SD) computer to do that.

The highest octane level avalible in the ECU is 95 octane, to change you ECU's into EU versions, will not give any problems.

The risk will be detonation, but the ECU is adaptable.

Here is a trick.

1. Find a good and friendly guy, with access to a star diagnose.

2. Install the SD to the OBD II plug.

3. Drive the car with full throttle in 3rd. and 4 th. gear up to red line, while inspecting the knock sensors on cyl. 1 to 8.
( A movement will approx. be seen from 0 - 3 on a few of the cylinders, max on the scale is 12.

4. Note down on paper what you saw on the SD.

5. Change the country code to German / EU.

6. Perform the same test as in nr.3 and see what the knock sensors are dooing ( I will bett they are dooing nothing )
If they move more than before ( critical point 9-10 ), drive the car for a 2-300 miles, drive mixed all over the RPM range, but no long loads over 10-15 sec., and let the ECU adapt to the new info.

7. Perform with the SD nr.3 again, if there still should be high movement at the knock sensors, go back the US settings.

Good luck guys:p

SleeStack, I wanted to email you, however you don't have that feature.

Where did you purchase the Black Birdeyse Maple Steering Wheel, Knob, Arm Rest and Door Pulls? Prices?

Also, any reason why you selected the H&R over the Kleeman springs? Have a website or pics of your CLK? Thanks.
