20" Tire Sizes

Getting tired of going through front tires every few months because of camber issues. Most of the problem was with the inside wall having what looks like Freddie Cruger Slashes on them and wearing down to the belts. My shop told me the inside walls of Pirelli are weak and recommended a few tire companies that apparently are suppose to have stronger inside walls.

Few makers have the size match I need i.e. (F)225/30/20 & (R) 255/30/20 which is what I need to work with my offset and my drop. The (F)235s and (R)265s are too wide.

After doing some research I found that the Nitto Invo 235s are only 0.05mm different than the Pirelli PZero Nero 225s. I can only assume that tire width standards depends on the country of origin. I say this because I found, according to TireRack tire specification page, that the Pzero Nero 225s are made in Italy and are 9.2"s wide where the Pzero Nero 235s are made in the US also at 9.2"s wide.

BEFORE
Pirelli Pzero Nero
Front 225/30/20 (8.5j ET38)
Rear 255/30/20 (10j ET29)
AFTER
Nitto Invo
Front 235/30/20 (8.5j ET38)
Rear 255/30/20 (10j ET29)

Hopefully this will give me a few more months before needing to purchase front tires again or until I can find someone to shorten my lower control arm

Here are some pictures to show how much clearance I have left to the inside bolt. No Spacers but maybe next I can run 245s up front with spacers

99CLK320,
Don't you have Kmack camber kits up front? From the last picture it looks like the top of the tire is tipped in. You might try adding the MB camber bolts to get another bit of camber adjustment.

do you switch your front tires? meaning your right to your left and left to your right to get a few more months in.

Did that a few times, worked out to be about a month. I got some cheap 20" spare tires that I thrown on when I'm sourcing new tires. Since I just put on these tires I'll work on getting it realigned next week and see how it looks.

Got the Kmack, Ghost said the only thing that will work is to shorten the lower control arm. He was going to take on that project but he's really busy so probably not going to happen

99CLK320,
You may have to go to smaller tires if the alignment doesn't get it right.

You gotta pay the cost to be the boss! haha 20's on a CLK is just asking for horrible camber wear on the front, But your car looks perfect doing it, your best bet is shortening the arm...

Its not the size of the tire/ship but the motion of camber arm/ocean (I crack me up lol.)

Yeah Man. That's why it's not such a real big deal but would love to find a shop over here that can do it or I'm stuck with waiting for Ghost who has been Ghost recently.
This thread was really meant to be informative i.e. pros/cons for one considering running 20s to what type of problems/issues and sizes they can run. Guess I should have mentioned that my front/back offsets are MID offset, so people can see how much clearance they would have on the inside and out.
  • Front 235/30/20 (8.5j ET38) MID
  • Rear 255/30/20 (10j ET29) MID
