Robo, I've reset mine after every service for six years now. This procedure is from a 2002 owners manual and works on my car. The 2001 and later cars have ME 2.8, so the procedure may vary slightly on a 2000, but I doubt it. The 1999 and earlier cars don't have the multifunction steering wheel, so I have no idea how to reset one of those.

Thanks, MarcusF. I'll try resetting the counter using these instructions tonight. I got distracted last night and didn't get to it.

I had the same issue following the manual steps without success. However, I found that after trying many times, I succeeded. Thread #23 has the book instructions. But I found the all doors must be closed and the driver seat belt must be engaged. This is not in the manual. Try it and let us know ...

Well, I can't say how the advice provided above worked on my CLK because my wife took the car to the dealership to get it washed/cleaned and they ended up resetting the FSS for her. However, I recently needed to reset the FSS in my SLK, so this weekend I tried MPSig226's method (doors closed and seat belt engaged). This got me further in the process than I had gotten before, but unfortunately I still was unable to reset the timer. However, after the third or fourth attempt I started to wonder if putting the key in "position 0" meant not only having the key turned all the way to the off position, but also having the steering lock engaged. So, I turned the car off, locked the steering wheel, ran through the reset steps again, and voila!, the timer reset for me. Thanks for the help, everyone. Hopefully this thread can assist someone else in the future.
