Install a H&R Cup Kit on CLK430 w/ stock 17" rims?

I am wondering if I should install my H&R cup kit on my 2000 CLK430 while I wait around for long enough wheel bolts for my new 19" rims? Will the drop sit the car too low on the stock 17's for everyday city driving (pot holes, speed bumps, driveways, etc)? Does anyone know how much ground clearance I will have with the cup kit on stock rims? And will I need an alignment or camber adjustment after the install and then again if I put 19" rims on?

Second question: Does anyone know where I can get wheel bolts that have a threaded length of 68mm? I know H&R goes up to 60mm, any ideas for 68mm? (12mm diameter, 1.5 thread pitch, conical seat).

No, the drop will be only marginally lower with the 17s... It should be fine for the majority of speed bumps and driveways... I haven't gotten around to replacing my 19s, so i'm running stock AMGs also. My drop at all 4 corners was 2", and I don't think it sits too low.

As for alignment, it depends on how long it will be before you get ur 19s up and running... I say, you can easily run your car for about 1000 miles before you need to get an alignment.

Technically, you suppose to do it after about 400 miles or so, since that is how long it takes for the springs to settle... but if you are going to change the rims soon, I don't think you need to do an alignment, unless you really want to.

Try evosport or wheelexperts for the bolts...

Hey thanks for the reply. BTW, what spring pads are you using? And secondly, could a local tire shop generally provide a good install for my H&R kit?

Hey Danny, how do you like your Eisenmann race exhaust? Did you get the oval or twin tip?

h&r kit

depends where you are located. 2 inches is way way to low for NY driving but you guys in Cali are much luckier as far as roads and weather is concerned.

I live in WA, which is somewhat notorious for bad roads. Also one thing that concerns me is the speed bump right infront of my Apt. I might have to take a tape measure out and see how high it is.

Does anyone know the stock ground clearance on a '00 CLK430?

And does anyone have any experience or opinions on having a local tire store install my H&R kit?

I got the twin tips... i wanted something a little bit different from the stock tips, although i do like the stock tips too...

As for suspension, I'm using #1 pads all around... I believe, if you put in the cup kit, ur drop should be approx 2.1" in front, 1.6-1.7" drop in back with all STOCK pads... if you change to thinner pads, expect about 2.3-2.4" in front and 1.8-1.9" in back

In regards to installation of the H&R Cup kit... any place should be able to do it. I would suggest go to a tuner shop that has experience with MBs... but it is a pretty no-brainer...

If you had the right compressors to compress the springs and all, you could do it yourself. it is basically just springs and shocks... you can even get it done at chain stores if u want.

i'm quite careful with all the speedbumps i go over, just go REEEAAL SLOW.... and try not to have a full car load when going over them, or else you may just scratch...

going diagonally helps, if traffic permits...

If anyone has any info on whether a tire store can handle a H&R cup kit install on a benz, let me know. I know they drop Honda's all the time, but not sure on a CLK. If anyone has any info, it's much appreciated and I will probably get it dropped today and get some pics up tonight.

if they are capable of installing suspension parts for other cars, they should be able to.... but i'd say, call just to make sure.

if there are tuners near by that have lots of experience on MBs, I would suggest you go there instead. In Cali, they are practically all over the place...

Thanks Jeremy... Just to clarify, I don't have a cup kit. I have a Brabus Suspension.

The front height is the same as the cup kit, and my rear sits a little lower than the cup kit.

To me, the ride is not harsh at all... I feel the pot holes and stuff a little more, but nothing major. I would definitely recommend the upgrade.

how do you eliminate negative camber

how do you eliminate negative camber on the rear wheels after lowering the car with H&R springs (1.4f 1.3R with stock spring pads)???

also..

if you live in washington which has bad roads, DO NOT GET THE CUP KIT. I scratch the bottom of the AMG front apron up and down some driveway ramps, and I only have the regular H+R springs.

well, for the clk... a cup kit runs about $600... to install, it should be no more than any other suspension for the benz... therefore, installation should cost at about $120-150.
