Hardtop or Convertible?

If you all could buy another CLK, would it be hard top or convertible? How comfortable is the conv. with the top on? Is it quiet? Is it still comfortable?

The reason im asking is because im trying to decide if i want to buy a convertible or just get hardtop. My current car has Targa top, and i love the fact that i can take it off whenever i want.

I have not been in a CLK convertible before, but I do not like rag tops. The only convertibles I like are retractable hard tops like the SL.

I think ragtops on newer cars are played out.

I'd have to agree about the ragtops. I think they look great with the top down, but how often throughout the year are you going to be able to do that. The look of the coupe has much more class and style year-round. Just MHO.

well, in places like Cali & Florida, where you get plenty of warm weather and sun... the ragtop will offer plenty of fun. It also retains better resale value then the readily available coupes.

retractable hardtops are nice, but the SL is the only contender for me, and its also way outta my price range for now...

The CLK Cab is actually quite quiet with the top up, with the top down, if you keep the windscreen & windows up, the noise isn't too bad. The new SL is very VERY quiet with the top up or down... so aerodynamic... gotta love it

2003 CLK Convertible
Convertible gives you the best of both worlds, a great looking car with the top up or down. When the top is up it is a very quiet ride. I have had 6 convertibles and the CLK is by far the quietest and the best looking with the top up(other convertbles look odd wit the top up). Pop the top and you have a whole different car, a great looking fun ride. Front seat passengers have no problem, the rear get a little wind blown especially if you ride with all four windows down. With the wind screen in place, it is awesome for the front seats. Go with the convertible,it's 2, 2 ,2 cars in 1.

Thankyou for the replies. I do live in Florida, so think the convertible would be nice. It will be my first converitble car if i do choose to get it. How is it with rain? Any leaks or loud thumping from the rain hitting?

one more question... If you could buy the car with nav would you? Is it worth the extra money? Can you put the navigation in to a non-nav clk?

2003 CLK Convertible
Have had my 2003 CLK in a few rainstorms and no leaks, no excessive noise either, I think it is a very quality made solid top.
It has been so hot here in LA recently that I have been driving with the top up and I have to say with the A/C on it stays nice and cool in the car. Purchased mine with navigation, more because I wanted the in dash CD that comes with it. I have used the nav system a few times and it works great (looks cool in the dash as well).

2000 CLK 430 Cab w/Ash/Dark ash leather and Ash top : all options
Talking MB Cab is more than a ragtop!

Through my 30 plus yrs. of car ownership, I've had sports cars, musle cars and a number of ragtops, but none even come close to the feel of a MB Conv. !!!
The top is best made I've ever seen on a car, including a Turbo Cab back in the early 80's, with no wind noise even at over 100 mph. I've never gotten a drop of rain or a hint of a leak in 3 1/2 yrs. of Fl. thunder storms!! You know the kind!!!

It is the best of both worlds for me; a almost HT when I need to be warm or cool, and a *****'in beach cruz'r when needed! I've never regretted my purchase of my 2000 430 Cab, and must agree, that with the top up, it still looks like a coupe. In fact, I have a grey top with silver paint, and I've had many folks releize it was a conv. after touching the top. It doesn't even buckle at speed or make a noise.

If you live in Fl. like I do, there is only one choice!!!!

2001 CLK430 Cab.
I've had my 2001 CLK430 Cab. for about 8 months now and it is excellent. With the top up, and while driving, the padded headliner looks just like a coupe/sedan headliner. The padding keeps out the noise and keeps in the air conditioning. There are no leaks nor wind noise.

Why not get the car that has the most versitility, especially in Florida. I put the top down, turn the AC on full and drive in the 90+ temperature.

But there is no better ride than at night in Florida with the top down. All the old farts are home (they won't drive in the dark), there's less traffic, and the temp. is about 80.

I had a '98 Corvette before this one but this one gets much more reaction and stares. It is one FINE car.

I got to test drive one today. Very quiet considering it is a convertible. You could still hear some road noise and louder cars around more so than a hardtop, but its till relatively quiet. But then we put the top down and it was SOOOOOOOO me I will post pics when i get mine Thankyou for the responces.

The coupe is a nice car.....however, the cabriolet made my heart go pitter-patter and it hasn't stopped since....even though I live in the Northeast (Boston). Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall.....not a day goes by that it doesn't turn heads....and last time I checked KBB/Edmunds...has held it's value like no other.
