Flat hood emblem turned into a Chinese throwing star

So I'm driving along and all of a sudden I see something go flying past my windshied. I wasn't sure what it was, I thought it was a piece of paper or something. When I got home I realized that it was the hood emblem. That thing took off. Luckily I had another one but that shouldn't happen. CrAzY!

Man- I almost had a similar situation after I lost the plastic tips that hold them emblem down from the under-side of the hood.

I tried to use some double-sided tape, but apparently it wasn't strong enough. Before I drove off, I did a check on the emblem and it slid right off.

Did you use double sided tape or double sided foam tape? I used double sided foam tape, and it sticks like a mother...

An even stronger alternative is to use double sided automotive type foam tape... those are like the ones on the back of the emblems...

I used double-sided tape (not foam or auto). I guess I need to upgrade my tape inventory to make this thing stick...

I remember telling someone on the forum to use double sided tape to attach the emblem... if that was you, I'm sorry if I wasn't more specific....

But yeah, I used double sided FOAM tape (available at any office supply store) and it holds perfectly with no problems.... hot, cold, rain or shine, my emblem is still holding very strong... just make sure you align it perfectly straight before you affix it to the hood... cause once it touches and its not straight, you gotta use new tape and start over...

The title is hilarious. I thought this was going to be a DIY project on how to make Chinese stars.

Oh well, sorry to hear about your hood emblem.

I have a question for all you who swap the hood emblem to the flat emblem. I absolutely love my stock star emblem, and wouldn't even think about going with a flat emblem. I'm just wondering what the thought process it going from the stock to flat emblem?

Don't get me wrong- I like the upright star, but I think the flat emblem really adds to the whole "sleekness" of the car, and gives it a much more understated look.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but if I wanted understated I would have gone with a BMW. They come standard with flat hood emblems.

I just think the chrome upright star gives the clk a more "bling" look. Especially on a black car. Although I agree the flat emblem is more sleek and might be better suited for those who are big on performance.

The ERECT star....

sorry, couldn't help it... anyways, though the ERECT star has more bling-age, it makes the car more, how do I say it, dull.... with a flat emblem, it gives a more sleek, SPORT look... not to purposely associate BMW with sport... but you notice, the only current Benzos with erect stars are the sedans... the coupes all have flat emblems...

I'm just the opposite. I think the flat emblem makes benz look dull while the "erect" star makes it stand out more, makes people take notice and is just visually more appealing. I also think it's different on a black CLK. The chrome star just looks right on black.

although you do make a good point... you should give the flat hood emblem a try... i always saw the erect star as being more prestigous, but I have no regrets about putting in the flat badge... I don't think anyone who has converted to the flat badge has ever felt they made the wrong decision...

I guess this is just another one of those things that is completely based on one's opinion.

Rather than argue our points about why which one is better than the other, we should just come to the agreement that some people want flat emblems *cough* boring *cough* and some people like the 'erect' star *cough* blingbling *cough*.

That's right. I can see how the flat emblem 'might' look good on a silver benz....might, IMO. But black and dark colored, man you have to go with the chrome bling.

Thanks!

one good thing about the erect star is you can use it to fantisize using it for target practice on cars in front...

and as Brian said, its just another matter of opinion... but its something easy to TRY... and if the results aren't what you think... it is easily reversed...

Sorry, I can't bring myself to try the flat emblem. The 'erect' star is one of my favorite features on the car....seriously. One of many favorites, but definately one.

if my flat badge ever falls off... i might go back to the erect star for a while... just to see if i missed it... then we can start this thread all over again...
