Reverse light stuck ON when not in R. Help...
The 2000 CLK430 is acting up... Heres whats going on..
- Car starts, no CEL lights.
- Wont go in to gear (Stuck in Park) - I replaced the Brake Light Switch, no fix.
- The Reverse light bulbs are in the "ON" position (lit up) while the car is in "Park".
I did a search but couldn't find anything else besides changing out the Brake Light Switch. Any ideas? Also, did not have any luck searching for Reverse Lights stuck in "ON" position.
Im trying my hardest NOT to have the car taken into the dealership. But if needed, I will take it to a shop.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Turn the ignition on, but do not start the car. Step on the brake, put the car in neutral. Now check to see if the reverse lights are on. If not, step firmly on the brake and attempt to start the car. If this works, the gear shift lever may be out of adjustment. Sorry, I don't know how to adjust it back, but I have seen a thread on this somewhere here.

I'll check tomorrow morning if this does anything. Thank you for your input!

Thanks MarcusF! I got you PM btw, thank you for that!
So the problem turns out to be the "Floor Shifter". I got the part for $460, OEM MB part. List price here in the Bay Area was $627.
The remove and install process was CAKE. Thanks to the tips and write ups here on the board.
Heres a quick break down of what to prepare for.
Tools needed: Phillips screw driver, Flat Head and a Allen Key (Forget the size)
- Center Console, Open and leave open
- Remove 2 screws on the bottom of the Center Console
- Twist the lower part of the shift knob, then lift and remove the shift knob
- Open the coin door
- Use your fingers to pry the wood accents near the gear shifter - unplug all the eletrical stuff
- Remove 2 screws thats holding the ash tray
- Pull the ash tray out
- Hold the edge of the center console and pull the whole thing back about 1 inch.
There are 3 allen key bolts that bolt down the Floor Shift
- Remove the first allen key bolt located in the front of the Floor Shift
- Remove the last 2 on the back of the Floor Shifter.
- Jack the car up (Use jack stands) and use the Flat head to remove the metal clip thats holding the shifter to the tranny lever
- Pull the Floor Shifter up and out
-Reverse this process and you are done.
Note: I have never taken apart and MB car before. Although I have built and worked on LS motors, this job took no more than 1 hour to complete. I cant believe MB charges $1,000 to do this job!
Use my write up in additional to others and you will get this done!
