1998 CLK 320
YOu are absolutely right !!!!!! The back speakers suk big time. I already hear crackling sounds coming from behind even though they are bose, they must be low caliber ones. I'm going to an alpine dealer next week to beef up my sound system. . . . . .
oh, one other thing. my brother drives a maxima (a '97 maxima mind you) and his bose system kicks major bvtt.

2002 CLK320
I took my CLK to the dealer because I thought something was wrong with the rear speakers, over tehr the dealer even thought something was wrong until he borught in another clk coupe and compared it to the other one ad found that there is no difference, he admittedly said the rear speakers are bad buts its just for base.

2002 CLK 320
I am really disappointed in the radio and CD system in my CLK 320. I have the NAV system. At the least I would have expected the radio to display the stations call letters and program type (my 2000 BMW 323i did that). And the CD player should automatically pickup the artist name, album title, and song titles from the CD if available. But no, you have to type in the CD names and even then the space they give you is too short. I couldn't even type in "Cher - Beleive".

Sound system?
I just bought a 2000 CLK 320 and the sound system is A1. Mind you I am only a sound engineer so know nothing about cars but had the Bach Toccata & fugue in D minor on and the bass.....................WOW!
I'd like to go digital I have JVC KD-DB711 DAB from my previous car. Does anyone know if it is possible to have it installed with full steering wheel control?

details, details . . .
The steering wheel controls are straightforward. A company called PAC Audio makes interfaces for this. To use a JVC head unit that is steering wheel control compatible (I’m unfamiliar with your particular unit, but JVC makes many that are) in a W208 CLK, a PAC SWI-CAN2 and a PAC SWI-JACK are needed. The input side of the PAC SWI-CAN2 plugs into the Mercedes-Benz factory wiring harness. The output side plugs into the PAC SWI-JACK. The output side of the PAC SWI-JACK plugs into the JVC head unit. Conceptually, the PAC SWI-CAN2 reads the output signal of the Mercedes-Benz steering wheel controls and converts it to a universal signal. The PAC SWI-JACK converts the universal signal from the SWI-CAN2 to a format that is understood by the JVC head unit.
I have an Alpine in my car and it works as advertised. I’ve seen several Pioneers, Sonys, and Kenwoods using the factory steering wheel controls in a W208.
Your next question may be about BOSE compatibility. The picture below has everything I used to swap head units several years ago. The item on the far right is a PAC-OEM2. It converts the unbalanced signal from the HU, making it the balanced signal the BOSE amp is designed to use as input. The retail price for a PAC-OEM2 was $14 when I got mine. Here is a link to write-up on a W208 HU swap.
