new member question - key fob range
i bought a new CLK430 convertible a couple of months ago and was wondering if anyone has experienced problems with the keyless entry. it seems as though you basically have to be on top of the car to activate with the key fob - i have to be close enough to touch the car to unlock it. it has no range whatsoever. is it just me or do i have a faulty key?
the dealer says it's normal - of course.
thanks for any input
hey everyone - first post here but have been following the board for a while.

i think its more of a safety feature (don't accidentally unlock when you walking away)...
It is a pretty weak remote in general, but there is almost no reason to need the remote to work 300 ft away like some aftermarket stuff....
it would be nice to not have to walk back to the car to check if car is locked, but... oh well
Hmm, i guess I'm pretty lucky, mine opens from about 30 cars away and through one concrete floor or wall

Isn't the "keyless go" only on the W209 models?
uh... when did keyless go get involved in this topic? did I miss something?
sorry, it's way past my bedtime.
Sorry about that, I thought my post might be confusing. I was referring to Calboy's CLK320. He has in his sig "keyless go" as one of his options. I was thinking your question was directed at him.
sorry, it's way past my bedtime.
very good eye... my comment was directed towards him, but I didn't read his whole sig... i got to "2003 CLK320 Black Opal", 18" Brabus, etc... but I skipped the option packages...good catch... i guess the new models have improved reception
Oh, so I was on the right track with that. Cool, I thought I just lost another ounce of credibility with that post. Whew, good to know I haven't completely lost it.
I think it's a problem with all 208 CLK.
I can open my c32 using the infared from 60-70 ft away with ease.
thanks for all the responses!
the tone and informative members of this board are sooooo much better than the last board i was on with my old BMW.
I have noticed that the system is sensitive about where your are located with respect to the car when outside. Sometimes I have to change the angle of attack.
