Do I have to get the MB phones?

When I bought my car it came with a really old star tac phone. And it's nicely integrated with the command unit.

The new phone for MB are the V60. Have anyone got their non-mb v60 reprogrammed to work?

Thanks in advance.

if you wish to integrate it into your current system, you HAVE to get a MB V60... there is just no way around it.

THere are other in car phones, but it won't be fully integrated as those issued by MB

Whoa, lots of "facts" here tonite!

I'm only addressing the second paragraph. I agree that the thread poster must use a MB V60 to use in his system.

However, in your second paragraph, you state that other phones are not as fully integrated as those issued by MB... that's not true.

The actual phone interface software in the cars is intended to work with Nokia phones. It integrates MOST fully with the Nokia phones. And the Nokia phones do not have to be MB-specific phones, because since the integration was written for a Nokia phone, it works perfectly. The MB Motorola phones have their firmware modified to accept some of the commands that are already present in Nokia phones. The Nokia 6310i will integrate fully with the car, using the Nokia PSE and handset. I've found this to be the most complete integration available on a MB vehicle using the stock radios (COMAND, Audio 10, etc.) And I'm using a 6310i purchased from AT&T, not Mercedes-Benz.

scorchie,

do doubt, you are right about the Nokia Phones... there are a few that are fully integrateable with the MB systems...

however, my statement was actually trying to say you can get other phones (& brands) to integrate with the vehicle, where it would mute the stereo, etc..., which is typical of most car kits... but it won't be as fully integrated where you'll have on screen menus on the COMAND & steering wheel controls, etc...

There are Nokia phones that are CDMA, but the only ones that will work with a Mercedes phone system are GSM. Sorry!

Do you know how a GSM Nokia phone would be able to hook up to the system?

Yes. I have three of those systems in my cars, and I take my phone and drop it into each car and it works great. It hooks up just like a Motorola system, so you can find Motorola phone installation instructions floating around on the net. It's exactly the same.

Thanks for the info.

Now for one more [dumb] question, how can I tell if my headunit is capable of integrating a phone? It has the "Phone" button on it but no cradle or anything? (Please excuse my ignorance)

You can tell that your headunit can take a phone integration if it passes all these tests:

1) it has a phone button on it
2) it works with a fibre optic CD changer

That's it. It has no cradle because the cradle is part of the phone kit that's added. You can find these kits on eBay all the time!

(also, your profile states that you have a CLK320, so as long as your CLK is not a 1998, you can have one of those GSM kits in the CLK.)
