Extended Warranty Advice

So my 2001 CLK320 has 47K miles and I still haven't signed on with an extended warranty (its not starmarked). I hear that its cheaper to get an extended warranty prior to the factory warranty expiring, so I'd like to move on this relatively soon.

I called the dealer, and the same extended warranty I had on my previous C Class (Warrantech) cost $3400 for the CLK, and they don't have a payment plan (full price up front).

I'm having trouble just finding extended warranties in general, much less those that are reasonably priced.

Can anyone make suggestions on extended warranty providers? I'm looking for a minimum of 2 more years/25K miles coverage (4 years/50K would be nice, but I think that would cost an arm and a leg). An experience with pricing from those of you who bought the ext. warranty late in the game would be helpful too.

Thanks a lot-
Chris

search the the CLK forum with the keyword "warranty" and user "mmgrad"

I've posted information about the DaimlerBenz/DaimlerChrysler ext. warranty for MBs that are still within the original warranty coverage...

I appreciate the reply-

I contacted MB about a month ago and asked about ANY extended warranty I could get through them, and they told me that there was nothing they could offer me. The only ext. warranty the guy I talked to knew of was for original owners in the first year of ownership.

And when I called my dealership, they only offered the aftermarket warranty from Warrantech at $3000+.

my advice would be DON'T DRIVE ANOTHER MILE UNTIL YOU FIGURE THIS OUT--

i've been looking for extended warranties for a while, and most everyone tells me they're expensive or they won't do it because they're off the original warranty.

the best warranty i've found (after looking about an hour) was $4500 for 4 yrs/48,000 miles, which covered everything but the exhaust. mine was expensive cause the cars off its original...

keep looking. if you go thru the dealer, i'm told they just mark-up and resell warrantys available direct. different dealers have even told me different things...so don't expect consistancy between them.

...I wonder whether a first name and surname with "L" is worthwhile to pursue?

The L. L. is a significant contact, that could save you big $$$.

Hint:
She plays a dominant part in the searches suggested by Danny (mmgrad).

haha... full initials are L.M.L.

Lisa Marie Lehbhaum (sp)

she is the finance & warranty manager at Courtesy motors, which is an authorized MB dealer.

just run a simple search and you'll find Lisa's contact. I can post it too if you can't find it.

Cool-

I'll find her info and see if I can get in touch with her.

(Would she be offerring the DaimlerBenz/DaimlerChrysler ext. warranty or a seperate warranty through Courtesy Motors? )

Thanks,
Chris

Has anybody had experience with Warranty Gold?

Their prices look really good ($1450 for 4yr/50K), and I saw someone else on here recommend them.

As for contacting Lisa at Courtesy Motors, after reading that 5 page thread on her- I dunno if I want risk any type of mix-ups.

I heard lisa from courtesy motors wasnt %100 legit. There was a thread in the general discussion forum about that many people sent her full deposits for warranties that they havent even received any paper work or notification if it is in effect.......... Also she claimed to give people factory warranties when it was actually a Daimler Chrysler warranty.

1. have you heard the proverb:

If it sounds too good to be true - it is?

2. Re: LML threads

Our warranties were for coverage 3 to 4 years down the road, which might explain...
but the bottom line is LML saved me 1K$$$!

Next to the MB extended premium warranty - the DC - not Wash. - is the best, and should be accepted by ALL MB service depts.

When I checked out Sam's Club two years ago, they were selling extended car insurance.

If you read that 5+ page gripe about the warranty not showing up in the system... that would probably be ME..... it took them about 7 months to input my vehicle into the system....

It turns out to be the following reasons:
- MBUSA was upgrading their system which caused a delay
- Apparently, I had 2 warranty services performed on the same mileage, and maybe the dealer inputted different dates or something, so the system flagged it as mileage tampering or something. So, they had to do a manual override since the system wouldn't accept the application.

But, I finally had it corrected last month, and I'm happy to say, my warranty is in the system, and it IS the MB Premium Extended warranty... not a regular DaimlerChrysler warranty

Update:

Called MB, they hadn't heard of a Daimler-Chrysler ext. warranty which covers Mercedes vehicles and were unable to recommend a warranty (although, the guy did mention GE Capital as one he personally considered reliable... of course their site isn't working).

Called Daimler-Chrysler Service Contracts, they said the only offer the ext. Daimler-Chrysler warranty on Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep vehicles.

For those of you (if any) with Daimler-Chrysler ext. warranties, how did you go about getting it?

Do not trust Warranty Gold!

Because of their "attractive" coverages, I had previously purchased two policies from them, only to recently understand that their insurer has declared bankruptcy which has frozen all of their funds until things are settled in court.

So the money I spent with them is apparently now worthless!

Thumbs down

Bummer on the Warr. Gold info, 'cause I got a deal with them a few months ago, and now your saying that they're out of business??? Sure didn't stop them from taking my money.
When will we all learn to quit ripping each other off? Is there no end to the fraud that seems to be Part of doing Business any more? This whole house of cards we call the economy will completly fall apart if we don't get back to some sort of moral foundation again when doing business with each other.
Sorry for the rant, but it just seems to never end nowadays!!!

I've emailed Lisa to ask about that warranty since you seem to be getting different responses to that warranty program.

Once I hear back from her, I will post my findings for ya'll

On a positive note, I did get an MB extended warranty (7/100) from Lisa earlier this year on my E500 for about $1700... which is obviously a much better bet than dealing with WG (who is indeed still selling policies even though policies "insured" by their former administrator are basically worthless).

Live and learn, I guess

Way to go!

LML saved me enough on the MB Premium extended warranty to buy the top of the line NIKON COOLPIX.

WOW.... $1700 on a E500? That is way cheap... i only saved a good couple hundred cause my policy costed me about $2,190... and we both have V8s too...

Oh well, the positive thing is, I saved money, and I have the policy in the system... so I'm happy :p

Is Lisa able to sell these warranties to only those people that are buying them in the first year, or can someone like me can get one too? My 2000 CLK is coming up on it's 4th year, but I only have 36,000 miles.
I could sure use a "bone" after losing out on Warranty Gold!!!
