My New Illuminated Door Sills

After lots of looking for Illuminated door sills that said "Carlsson" to go with the rest of my Carlsson theme, I was finally able to order them from formymercedes.com They came out great :0) Lots of thanks go out to Mark, Steve, and Dean for the guidance on the install!

FYI Jerry has sills for W202, W203, W163, W208, W140, W220, R170, W210, W211, and W124

Available graphics: Mercedes-Benz, Carlsson, Lorinser, ///AMG, and BRABUS

Those look great Josh... just 1 question though... why didn't you add the Carlsson logo on there?

I'm not sure if the plotter can do such fine detail that only putting the horse outline would entail.

Would it be possible to get custom illuminated doors sills? Like with my name or whatever? Or get blank sills and do them myself? Anyone done that before?

You made that yourself? Did you start with a basic illuminated kit?

Nope no Renntech here. Just a plane jane clk with no real mods.

And renn, apart from being part of my name, is the german word for "run" or "race"

Sorry to dissapoint! (And despite their excellent marketing, RENNTech did not invent the word).

The sill's really pretty easy, as all you have to do is take the polycarbonate window, heat it up with a hair dryer, peel off the old sticker. Put in a new one.

As for the wiring, Scorchie rigged up a little wiring harness that Ys into the plug in points for the puddle lights.

To install, I used euro spec doorsills as the base (so I didn't have to drill into the $300 sills that came with the car), drill a hole to accomodate the wiring from the EL strip - so there are no ghetto wires visible peeking from the sill. Then we remove the door panel, hook up the wires to the puddle light and run the wire all the way to the sill gutter. Attach the new sill with it's tape on top of the Euro sill, connect the wires and Viola! your own little piece of EL goodness.

I'm really sorry about that man... you were doing it and it didn't even cross my mind. Hope I was able to help out a little later, even if it ended up you needed a new strip!

p.s. i want to add a layer of light mask that i bought to block some of that excess light coming through... the OEM ones have the same light seepage... but the newer non-OEM ones, with the painted logos, don't have light seepage (see Josh's pics).

...erm...IMHO a plane jane CLK would be one that came with a CLK200 or CLK230 badge on the trunk...in the US maybe even a CLK320...
