New Tire Suggestions

Hi All,

I just purchased a set of 18 inch AMG Replica Rims for my 2002 CLK 430.

I'm looking at purchasing some good quality and preferably quiet tires for the new rims.

Tires sizes I'm looking for is 235/40/18 front and 265/35/18 rear since these rims are 8.5 inches and 9.5 inches wide respectively.

Anyone have any suggestions? I was leaning towards Michelin Pilot Sports for comfort and noise however I hear mixed reviews so I'm hoping some of you fellow enthusiasts can influence me with your own experiences.

Thanks in advance.

Hands down Michelin Pilot Super Sport. Best traction, treadwear, and price to be had on the market right now.

Do not get the regular Pilot sports. The are average at best.

I run 245/40/18 front and 265/35/18 rear on the same size wheels. The 245 fronts rub the fender wells only when the steering's at full lock.

Thanks for the feedback. Whats the offset of your rims? I was told ET35 or 30 would be fine and I would have no rubbing at all.

No problem. Mine are +35 offset. It really depends on the width of the tires. Some performance tires are listed 245 but are in reality wider. My 245 Sumitomo HTRZIII's rub very slightly in the front and the wheel has to be at full lock. If the issue was more serious I could notch the fender wells to accommodate this. My rubbing is super minor and goes away as the tire wears.

I have had great results with BF Goodrich KDW and Michelins Pilots. You really cant go wrong with either one. I'm hearing that the BF sport comp2 are amazing as well.

Hi Kris,
I'm curious about the AMG replica rims you bought.
Could you post a link to them and pricing if you don't mind sharing?
Maybe even an image of them installed?

I'm a huge fan of Nitto Invo, wanted to try the Michelins PS's but the don't come in the size that I need. I can tell you never to buy the Pirelli Pzero Nero's, that is the worst tire ever.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will research these a bit. For this go around I've ordered some Michelin Pilot Sports. Hopefully they dont disappoint.

Surprising about the Pirelli tires considering you would think the brand would carry some integrity behind it.

Cheers!
