Rear Brake Pads

However, most W208s have 2 break wear sensors, which are located on the left and right front axle brakes and none on the rear.
The exception is the E43 version, which uses 3 wear sensors (e.g. 2 on the front and 1 on rear)
See the WIS .pdf attached in post #3 at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w208...30-normal.html
If the notch is in the pad material, which is where the sensor fits, check to make sure you have the correct rear brake pads.
PS: The rear pads are very easy DIY change (e.g. remove the one spring retaining pin, remove the spring, push back the pistons and then pull out the old pads). I push the pistons back with the old pads still in, so as not the damage the piston rubber seals. Then install the new pads and reinstall the retaining spring back and pin back in place.
Before you drive off, make sure you first pump the brakes several times, in order to restore the required piston-pad contact pressure.
I've read somewhere, where the early CLKs (e.g. 98-99) rear brakes may differ (e.g. might use 2 retaining pins).

The manufacturer likely uses the same backing plate for bake pads (e.g. where the pad wear would include a slot to hold the sensor) for other models, that do require a rear brake wear sensor.
