CLK 430 Tire Wear
I've also been told that this is normal for v-rated low profile tires but I have a buddy who has an E55 with 18" rims and he has 20k on his car and his tires look great.
Hope someone can help.. I have a 2000 CLK 430 with 22k on it. I have the stock 17" AMG rims and had to replace all 4 tires at 11k due to improper tire pressure. I chalked that up to my error. I replaced the Michelin tires with Bridgestone Potenza RE730's and was told they were a harder compound of rubber. At 22k, my rear tires are down to the tread bars, however, my front tires look great. I'm being told by my dealership that I should get it on MB's laser alignment machine but I'm not sure that this is an alignment problem. Anyone else getting poor mileage on rear CLK 430 tires?

Improper tire wear on ur OE tires were not your fault, it was specified by MB to set it at 32f/33r... this combination does in fact give the effect of an underinflated tire.... Thats why when I ran my 17s, I had it at about 38/39 psi.
the RE730s are definitely harder compound tires and have a higher treadwear, but how long it lasts really depends on your driving habits and the roads you drive on... Some CLK owners go through tires after 12,000 miles, other take it for over 25,000 easy....
The rear tires will need to be replaced before the fronts will (typically) because you have a rear wheel drive car... since you can't rotate the tires like on most other cars, there really isn't anything you can do about it... outside of installing the same size tires on all 4 corners...
As long as the wear on the rear tires look 'normal' (not all on the inside or outside edge), you shouldn't need any alignment done...

What are your driving habits like?
My original Pilot Sports on the CLK55 have at least another 10K in them....(I'm at 9,900 miles now) and I don't baby that car.
I'm running 36 psi rear, 38 front.
Had the OE Michelin for 19k , then Pirelli P Zero Rosso for only 10k, now back to Michelin again.
thx again.

easy driver most of the time.
had to change rears at 15k, and fronts will be ready at 20k.
was able to get 30k out of 2000 430 treads.
service advisor said the 55's massive torque at rear primarly is responsible for such early wear.
given that i'm in S FL (far too much) these days, i think i should keep the pressures at or very near factory settings. the roads are very hot.
if you have other helpful thoughts, then please set me straight.
