FUNNY story
She took it upon herself to do something that I haven't had to do...since I just purchased the vehicle.... she pushed the roadside assistance button.
When I looked down to see what she was doing, the red light was flashing. Shortly thereafter, the radio muted itself...interrupting my enjoyment of Jill Scott. :O)
I was trying to figure out how to get the radio to un-mute....and how to cancel what I figured was a call to our friends at MB. Pushing the button again didn't help....and soon...I heard a pleasant voice which said , "Mr Daniels...can I help you?"
I had to laugh...and apologize to the guy on the other end. He said "ok...I'll disconnect you". I heard a click...and the radio came back on !
The kid thought it was cool.....and yeah...it was kind of cool for her to hear my talking to a disembodied voice....particularly with no sign of my cell phone in sight !

Looks like you have to wait for someone to answer on the other end to disconnect you!

Before disconnecting the line, however, I chatted with the Tele-Aid operator and asked him how many calls they get a day because I was curious about their business model.
He told me that on an average day they get about 5-10 airbags (the automatic distress call that the car sends out when the airbag is deployed), and about 15-25 emergency calls per day.
Given the hundreds of thousands of MBs sold each year with Tele-aid, I was expecting a larger number, but then again, maybe it is statically equivalent to the national average.
If you think about Tele-aid from a business standpoint, it only takes a few operators to handle that small volume. And all the operators do is inform the local emergency units (fire, ambulance, etc.) to the scene of the accident/emergency.
Sure, the satellites much cost a fortune (I'm sure they are timesharing them with other companies), but considering they get $240/year for each car, it sounds like a pretty good business to me.
Anyone know details on Tele-aid's profitability?

I'd rather pay a onetime thing if I ever needed it rather than $240 for a year.

As far as the roadside assistance, all Mercedes' come with lifetime roadside assistance and have for at least 20 years, but I do not know what happens if you don't pay for tele-aid as far as whether the car will still automatically notify them.
