My Project CLK continues!

The combination of seeing Sleestack's car every day, working with Vadim, and adding a new engineer to our team, has made me realize that 350+ hp at the wheels is just the tip of the iceberg for me.

Over the next couple months, I will be adding:

--more boost
--evosport supercharger cams
--evosport metallic cats/H-pipe
--custom software
--Brembo 12.9" 2-piece rear brakes
--19" wheels, weighing under 20lbs
--titanium lug nuts
--evosport limited-slip/traction-seeking differential

What does this equate to? Probably about 425+ HP at the wheels, better traction, handling and braking.

Stay tuned!

On the chassis of course:p

They are still in development, so I can't comment just yet.

I also may be developing a carbon fiber trunk w/ decklid integrated into it. Would anyone be interested in this? It should save about 40-50lbs (weighing it today).

Thanks,

Ben

Update:

I have been pursuing the idea of building a carbon fiber trunk (painted of course), which should shave off about 40lbs of weight. Preliminary retail pricing should be under $900. In order to get these built, I will need to show the manufacturer that there is significant demand. Who here would be interested based on the current information?

Thanks,

Ben

$900 is not painted right ? are you gonna make a CF hood too ?
I notice you got that Lorinser deck lid on it, do you think the CF trunk can have the shape of that deck lid in it like the M3 CSL ?

I'm planning to have it molded simliar to the trunk w/ decklid, however it will be smoothed out considerably.

That price is unpainted, and only an estimate. Actual pricing may be more/less. I supposed it doesn't need paint, but most would want to paint it.

Ben, just a suggestion, but if/when you do the CF trunk lid could you pattern it off of the European Trunk?

Would make it even more enticing....and also make for a more Intl sales friendly product

Personally, I don't really like the Euro plate holders unless the car has an euro plate. But all options are open right now.

Thanks Ajayz!

I met with Brembo for a couple hours today, and went over pad choices, etc for my rear upgrade. Tomorrow, I should have a nice 12.9" 2-piece Brembo rear kit in the mail--I can't wait!

It is hard to understand the value of upgrading to a Brembo kit on a street car--until you've done it once. Honestly, I will not be able to own another car without Brembo brakes.

Hopefully more updates will come shortly.

Thanks,

Ben

Ben Ive owned Brembos on several of my other cars and let me tell you they're most usefull on the track. I will also like to mention that rotors are $350 to replace each and pads are $175 per.

Brembos are great for track use or cars with high HP to avoid fading during repeat applications. I love Brembos but unless Im building a track car or a show car the clk braking is enough for me

I agree that they are definitely the most useful on the track, just as horsepower and suspension are the most useful on the track, but you can never have enough brakes. Heat-dissappation is only one of the braking aspects upgraded.

With just the front kit, I found myself adjusting my braking about 15-20ft from where I would intend to stop during the first week or so, as I was already almost stopped. Mercedes come with adequate brakes from the factory, but they definitely leave significant room for upgrading. Heck, even the new 55k AMG cars make significant gains when upgrading their brakes--they save 20lbs per side just in rotor weight!

Brembo rotors/pads do cost more to maintain, however they also last longer. Essentially, maintanence costs balance themselves out.

Brakes are the only thing between you and the car in front of you, and with that in mind, I would always rather be safe than sorry.

I used to have just the front brembo brakes, it took about two months to custom make the back ones(4 piston calipers). I think they are the best investment, and safety upgrade I have had on my car.

I definitely agree. So you have the one-piece 12.2" rear? Or did you just get the 12.9" 2-piece rear? How much better was it when adding the rear?

Last Saturday, with the help of one of our skilled tecnicians - Sam, I installed the 12.9" rear Brembo kit. All I can say is WOW!

Many of you may remember me boasting about how great the front 14" kit was by itself-- it was great. But with the brake geometry in conjunction with the car's chassis/features, the rear kit has amazed me with how much it adds to the package. Braking is smoother, less effort, better pedal feel, even more consistent, and mind-numbing (literally)! The best way to describe the braking power would be by saying that you can literally almost black out from the power

So far, I'm quite pleased with how this project is going.

Thanks for listening!

Ben
