Does anyone else get paranoid besides me?
Since I got my CLK430, my 2000 328ci has become my "beat-up car". I hate the rain. I cringe thinking about leaving my 430 in a supermarket or shopping mall parking lot. I cringe whenever I drive next to an old beat up American car. I'll always use the auto-lock even in my garage and yes I place that stupid yellow cover over my steering wheel. I'm always looking to see if girls are checking my car out after I wash it. I always look back at my car about 3 or 4 times after I park it and say to myself " what a beautiful piece of engineering". If people look at my car the wrong way, I want to kill them. I avoid all puddles, potholes, dirt roads, traffic jams and squeegy people. When I'm at work all I can think about is my car. I enjoy the 279 horses it delivers but always feel guilty after b/c it's like beating my wife. I never ever let anyone lean on my car, Some days I feel special and that I am the only one who has this car ( obviously not).
So the question is: Am I too paranoid?
What are your thoughts and opinions about your cars?

I don't do any of that with my S500... I don't care if anything happens to it because I will be rid of it in a few months . Although I will probably far worse when I get my C32. My dad always, and I mean ALWAYS parks in the middle of 2 parking spaces so noone would dent his doors or something. He also gets the car washed every day and is on a first name basis with the owner of the car wash. When he goes to a place with valet parking, he will actually park the car himself because he doesn't want the valet guy driving the car... and he still tips them!
I will definetly be far worse with my C32.

Gizmo, you're not alone. And you're not paranoid either. You just happen to be a "car nut" - one of a select breed that cherishes their car. Be proud of what you are, your car and how you treat it - I certainly am.
The statement "it's just a car" may be true, but I have elevated "car" to a prized possession - something to be cherished. Call that strange if you like, but there are far worse vices to be afflicted to in this world. As a matter of fact, it is actually pretty healthy to be wrapped up into this automobile thing. You only get one go around in this world so do what makes you happy. If that is being totally involved with your car - so be it!

i am definitely just as paranoid as you are.....except for washing the car (i don't really care if the car is dirty for some odd reason)....i take up two parking spots at work in the basement even though we don't have enough parking spots.....i tip the parking attendant so he doesn't say anything about it....i park far away when i'm at the mall so that no one can ding my car....i hate driving on bad surfaces and do as much as i can to avoid it....i NEVER park outside....i usually make my girlfriend park her car outside when i come over so i can park in her apartment garage...
if you figure out how to fix this problem do tell cuz i can't get enough of my CLK.....and its been almost FOUR years.....

accord! Read :0)
Just a little tip. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell your dad to just find a nice parking space or to park in a space where there's only a car on one side (i.e. the end of a row; near a wall; etc.) instead of parking in two spaces. This pisses a lot of people off and I've heard of many cars getting keyed over this. I stopped doing this when my buddy's car got keyed for doing the same thing.
In response to everyone else, no it's not paranoia. Cause I have it and I'm not paranoid...I'M NOT!!! Dude, I said I'm NOT why do you keep looking at me like that?! ;0)

i park in a public garage that has 3 levels and i don't drive my car during the week. so every sunday when i'm parking for the upcoming week i spend about 20 minutes going up and down the levels looking for the prime single spaces or the spaces against the wall. if i don't find anything good i come back on monday to scout for a better spot. the garage attendants know i like to patrol around for a good spot so they usually open up the closed levels for me (i buy them six packs every now and then).
yeah, it's just a car but it's MY/YOUR car, so if you want to obsess about it go ahead. for example, this monday i'm having the whole front bumper and front of the hood resprayed to take care of 6 or 7 minor road chips for $1800. now, nobody besides myself would probably notice those chips, but i know their there! so they got to go, because i want my car f'ing kleen for the summer.

Josh K, I forgot to mention that... sometimes when taking up 2 spaces is not an option, he would park in the way back of the lot and end up walking a mile, lol.

Heres a tip about parking. whenever you cannot find that right spot. go to home depot and purchase a brush and a container of white or yellow paint and paint your own parking space. I did that once back in my college days and the security was laughing so hard they let me slide

I not only look back at the car after few steps away from it. I took TONS (I mean a lot, my friends think I am nutz!) of pictures of it. Even though some of them look very similar, I just can't control my mind and would immediately turn on my camera and strat taking pictures after a car wash.
CLK is just a beauty, too hard to resist!

Medically speaking...
"Auto Neurosis"
I go balistic just having the dealer wash my car because they do such a lousy job - not to mention I have yet to find a dealer that understands these four simple monosyllabic words:
" DON'T WASH THE CAR! "
I'd so much rather do it than having them beat the crap out of my black paint with dirty brushes and leave water spots....
I've had the car over a year and IT HAS NEVER SEEN A RAINY DAY!

LA ?
It's safe to say that my CLK will never be in LA...I'm in Chicago...and God knows I'd NEVER drive my baby that far!
So, if I ever move to LA...I'll be sure to have the driver of the shipping truck stop by there!
