01 320 or 00 430??

which one would be better:

01 CLK320 or 00 CLK430??

I've heard that 430 rides a bit tougher....

what's the market price for both of these right now?? (with reasonable avg mileage and good condition)

i test drove both before i bought my 01 430. the 320 was awesome but then right when i got into the 430 i know where i was going. if u can afford a 430 i suggest u to get the 430 since 00 has most of the bugs sorted out.

the ride isn't noticeable in my opinion.

did you implicitly suggest that 99 or older 430 would have bugs unremoved??

I say get the 320. Unless gas prices go down, you'll save a lot of money with the better mileage. Also, with a 2001 you may have more warranty left on there so less money on costly repairs.

I do love the AMG kit that comes stock on the 430 but all things considered, I would get the 320.

i drove a 1998 E320 and a 2000 CLK320 and personally, the ride quality and comfort on the CLK was exceptional.

And the coupe feels quicker!

Thumbs up 430!

You'll love the corporate V8 and AMG Styling. I would go 430 in a heartbeat and throw on some rims!

Just an observation...

Do people really buy cars based on MPG?

If the MPG estimate for the CLK320 is 20 mpg's and the CLK430 is 16 mpg's (just my guess) based on 12,000 miles per year, that is 600 gallons of gas for the 320 and 750 gallons for the 430. Assuming $1.80 per gallon, at a difference of 150 gallons, isn't that $270 per year, or $22.50 per month or $.75 per day?

My girlfirend just bought an '04 CLK320 and it does ride quite nicely, but I'll keep my 430!

what do you guys think about the CLK 430 Year 1999?

are there known problems?

I'm still searching around but could not find it here in Atlanta easily....(CLK 430 or 320 Year 99-01)...

In general, I am not sure how safe it is to purchase an older MB (99-00) that does not have warranty anymore...

I am driving a 2001 C320 (still under warranty) right now without problem however some folks suggested that handling is better in CLK (and of course HP)..so I am thinking to x-change my C320...(despite the fact that I will miss the nice COMAND and Bi-Xenon)...

I have a 99 CLK 430 and it rides like the dream it is. Yes, there are the fewer options available for that model year (steering wheel, phone, COMAND, and turn signals on the mirrors), however, it still has the same V8 and AMG package that all the others do. I picked mine up with 33000K and STARMARK and haven't had any problems so far. In fact, I can't tell between a dumbed down version 00-02 other than some minor cosmetics. If you contact the right people and places, you'll replace everything anyway! :p

Bottomline: Look at the basics: Vehicle History, Price, and options. If you're modding the car, then you might as well save the money by getting an earlier low mileage car and building it up from there...

Good Luck

Go for the 430 - if gas is a problem, you can always buy a cheap beater to drive around that gets 50mpg until gas prices go back down

If gas is an issue, get an old W123 diesel. Those things are good on gas, and they can last forever!

I have a 99 430 and while I was concerned about the problems that come along with an earlier model 430 I have been very pleased with my experience. After reading comments on the forum it seems that the CLK's common problems pretty much effect all of the model years, the only difference with my car and a later model 430 I would say are the few differences in cosmetics as was mentioned before. And most of those are all interchangeable in the end.

When I was looking to purchase a CLK I test drove a 2000 320 and a 1999 430. To be honest I can't remember a huge difference since my test drives were days apart and they were on city streets so I couldn't really step on it. But from the overall feel that I had in the 430 and the visual appearance of it I was sold. I am totally happy that I chose to go with the 99 430 over the 2000 320. If I had another chance I'd do it the same way.
